Nice series, Angler. I really enjoy seeing historical sites like that fallen stone wall, which--given the area's close location to the sea--was clearly built to keep the Vikings out. It looks to be only three feet high or so, but one must remember that, due to poor nutrition, people were much shorter in those days, and as such, it would have been a formidable obstacle.

Probably.

:Thanks for looking in Randy.Glad you liked them and sorry for the delay in replying but I've been to watch our local rugby team StHelens RLFC against Hull fc rugby league team, who I might add have several vikings in their squad and not the little ones either.Anyhow to cut a long story short We stuffed them 62 points to 16 points.HA,our Saxon lads, you know fair haired and blue eyes, just like me really but my hair is fair grey these days.COME YOU SAINTS.

I like your photos of Cumbria. It's beautiful country. I'm reading a book that takes place in Cumbria. It makes frequent reference to a "pele" tower. Would the white tower at the top of the hill be one of those? It apparently was used to spot Viking invaders or was a last resort stronghold if the Vikings couldn't be repulsed at the beach. Does any of this make sense to you?
