i am a sony user,i have been playing around with extenders for the last7 yrs.i have been useing third party extenders with good results,you'll just have to use good tecnique,same as you'd use for any long lens.i have even piggy backed two and gotten good results. for canon ,generation 3 should be ok.if you have access to a well stocked photo store you can take your camera in and test one.
