It rare to get an private audience with Mighty Mo ... usually she is full of tourists ..., if you stand on her decks and listen carefully .., you can hear and feel her breathe .. .

I have been on the Mighty Mo several times, from Bremerton to Pearl Harbor. The view from the bridge at Pearl is solemn. She is guarding the Arizona.
Awesome shots! I was aboard the USS New Jersey when she was in the Phila. Navy yard during Viet Nam. Made the destroyer I was on look kinda puny.
Thanks for your service.
You show her off very nicely Dr. She does bring a lot of emotions to those who remember.
My father-in-law was on the USS Lexington (CV-2) when it was sunk in the Battle of the Coral Sea. He then was sent to a shipyard in NY to bring out a new battleship. It was BB-63, the USS Missouri! So he was a plankowner. I guess if you're a chief gunner, you can't do any better than the Missouri. He retired as a CWO4. He actually missed the surrender because he was sent ashore to escort a Japanese photographer who was taking pictures on the base at Yokohama.
I revisited my WW2 haunts--Pearl Harbor in 1984 (my80th birthday---will be 95 in 2 weeks)--spent some time on the Mighty Mo and also visited the Arizona memorial--my gun battery HQ was in Waipahu School near Marine Air Base in Ewa, with gun battalions all thru the sugar cane and pineapple fields--139th AAA Group of the 48th AAA Brigade-- on a mountain --Aiea Heights looking down on Pearl like a diorama--after the war we were moved to Fort Ruger in Waikiki--it is all gone now even most of the Fort--pity-

My wife and I toured the North Carolina. It took us over five hours. That was before my digital photography days so I have no photos.
