I couldn't find anything in print to back up the 8fps, so i'll go with the 3.5 fps.... :-D

Fast enough unless you are trying to make video the hard way. (card flipping)

Update.....the sx40 is different than the sx30...... for the fastest FPS shooting...... on the sx40 go to scene, scroll to HQ (high quality 8fps) shutter set at contunious...class 10 card is a must..... also to review in camera, after pressing review button, you need to press the set button to bring up all shots of the burst....

I've had mine a month now. Love the camera, but having always shot Nikon, it's a heck of a learning curve for me.

High Speed Burst HQ gives you up to 8 shots at a RATE of 10.3fps.
See page 74 of the SX40 manual

Check out the SX50, the layout of the buttons on the back I think is better.

Yes, different and improved, but not enough to warrant upgrading to it especially in light of the fact that the SX50 is imminent, while another high-end bridge offers an f/2.8 over the entire zoom range.

DEFINITELY improved enough to be worth upgrading! Just a cost issue. Should be able to get an SX40 for around $300-$350 now and the SX50 will be $479 to start and will probably not come down in price for 6months or so.

O.K.--I will admit it; I'm old and out of date. What the heck is a HACK ?
Maybe there should be a rule that the first use of any technical term is ALWAYS spelled out in full; after that, initials are o.k. Alyn

A "hack" in this case in the CHDK (Canon Hack Developer's Kit).
This is a program 'addition' or 'hack' that enables more functions in the camera's internal software.

Google "CHDK" to read more about this.

A few of my comments about CHDK here:

(Addendum to above: CHDK was finally ported to my 1.01a Elph 310)
