Just bought a used lens from Cameta Camera. Better than rated-only very minor flaws on the "Paint" and flawless glass.

KEH or MPB.

There are a couple of good camera stores who sell on eBay and come with good ratings if you do a bit of research.

Fred Miranda has a good buy/sell forum that a lot of people swear by and of course you could always try here on UHH.

Hi there,

I have bought a number of lenses from KEH. I've found them to be excellent. Usually deliver well over rated quality. Hope that helps.

Good luck.

I second KEH. Others are Adorama, B&H, Cameta, and others, but these are most often recommended by Hoggers.

I have had good luck with both the KEH and B&H sites. I have gone to tag and yard sales and found rare gems and bargins beyond belief. Best find so far: Canon 7z w/ 50mm f: 1:0.95 lens / CdS meter coupler accessory and leather case / f/r lens covers and a Canon 135mm f3.5 f/r covers and case, all in working condition, ($10.00). No haggling was required. Seller said it was some old junk.
Best I can suggest is go on eBay and search, don't be afraid to ask the seller questions or request photos of the item for sale. David C.

Seeking advice on where to buy a used lens. It's a particular older Nikon autofocus zoom. I'll have to buy it online, and am seeking recommendations and warnings of used lens sellers. I would like to get it from a seller who actually checks the lens for proper function and is a straight shooter in every way. Fine with paying a fair price; I want quality and am willing to pay for it. I'm sure that y'all in Hedgehog land have vast experience with many online dealers... Thanks in advance.

KEH is very good and I use Ebay a lot.
Make sure returns are allowed and the best sellers for clean quality equipment are those in Japan.

Ebay from top rated sellers who sell lenses. Read the description carefully in regard to the lens condition and operation. If the item is not as described, Paypal will refund your money and postage both ways.

Agreed. Have had great results with buying used equipment on ebay. In addition to selecting a top rated seller, OP needs to check the seller's return policy. B&H also has used gear, and as everyone knows, they are 100% trustworthy. >Alan

I would expect any reputable dealer to back their used products to at least their evaluation of the lens.

Personally, I've had very good results buying lenses off eBay from dealers in Japan and Hong Kong. I haven't had the same experience from sellers in the USA. My only two purchases from US sellers (on Amazon) have both been duds with the hassle of returning them from refund involved!

I get my used lenses from my local Samy's camera store, and B & H online.

Re: E Bay (or other private seller services) What is our risk tolerance? Is grey market OK with you? Could you get it repaired if (or when it eventually) malfunctions. I've dealt with used lenses on E Bay and have not been disappointed. Approach the offerings with a degree of skepticism. Just be careful with the prices asked. They are sometimes higher than the price of a brand new identical lens. Patience is golden. If you can wait for the right deal to come along , it usually will.

BTW Several places that rent lenses often rotate their stock and their used lenses are honestly described.

Agree with KEH. Good lens from them, but what the “extras”. They did not supply with either of the caps nor a lens hood, so just be careful of what you are getting in comparing with sites

I always wonder where the gold plating is on some sellers offerings. Adorama, Milford Camera, and others
tend to be higher priced for like items and condition. Craig's list and eBay will provide a price range to compare with when searching, then go with your gut for what you want to spend. Always check out the return policy and use it if needed. Also report you seller experience. David C.
