Been discussed here often. Suggest you use the Search function at the top of the main page. Search on “SLR vs Mirrorless”. Also a very large group of YouTube videos on the topic.

This is a topic that generates hundreds of replys and many, many articles and reviews. I'm tired of reading about it.

And you don't know? I would tell you (even though the subject has been discussed to great length here on the UHH) if you really do not know.

To me the biggest advantage a modern DSLR has over a MILC is longevity. Since MILC'S are all electronic, and many of them are physically smaller than DSLR'S, the batteries run out of power quicker so you need to carry more spare batteries. The auto focus systems in many DSLR'S are more advanced than many MILC'S, mostly older models. I like the EVF in newer MILC'S, they give you a more accurate preview of the image you are about to take. As for image sensors and over all image quality, it's pretty much the same with MILC'S and DSLR'S. I believe a few years down the road, as MILC technology matures, most companies if not all will phase out DSLR cameras and only offer some form of mirrorless camera.
Another point to ponder, your question is (D)SLR vs mirrorless. My response is geared toward Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Cameras, not mirrorless cameras in general because all your point and shoot, bridge, smart phone and instant picture cameras are in fact, mirrorless cameras.

To really find good information on this topic, you are far better off using search portal sites like Bing or Google than a social media site like UHH.

the pro's are mostly for the camera manufacturers in an over saturated SLR market. Now they get to sell everything all over again including bodies, lenses, and flash units. The cons are for the consumer who can already take just as good pictures with their SLR's as they will with the mirrorless, but who think that mirrorless is the wonder camera of the century

It also give someone like me a chance to move from, say, Nikon to Sony.

I switched to Olympus EM1 mk ii from an Olympus E-5 about a year ago. The major advantage is the option for a totally silent shutter. I do a lot of shooting in churches as well as in a few monasteries. Recently a superior asked me to shoot during some of the liturgies. A DSLR would sound like a firecracker in the extraordinary silence of that particular house. I can barely hear the 'whooosh' when the shutter is pressed. Shortly after Easter I will be shooting an ordination that will demand silent shutter.

The weight saving isn't all that great compared with the E-5 but that is not a big deal. The Olympus Pro lenses are heavy. Worth every penny.

Better to pick two specific models - and directly compare - that would be more meaningful.

You can google that and you will get more information than can be typed in my response.

The main difference for me is that you see the final result in the camera before you take the shot with Mirrorless.
But, at the current time, I have too much invested in lenses to switch.
I will however, get a mirrorless sometime in the next two years and add it to my current collection. There is not enough advantage to going 100% mirrorless for me at this time.

Mirrorless cameras do not use mirrors, while DSLR's do use mirrors.
Is that clear?

So the advantage of a mirrorless camera is that it does not have to use a mirror. If you drop a camera with a mirror, the mirror can break. That results in broken glass inside the camera ... not good.

Barely or silent...one still makes noise...and it ain’t the Olympus.
