The pointer keeps sticking & although several actions taken, nothing works to resolve the problem.

I assume you do not have the old type with the ball in it, it is probably as stated low battery or defective mouse. I usually have to replace mine about every year.

If it is an optical or laser mouse, try cleaning the sensor/laser window on the bottom of the mouse. Over time it can accumulate dirt, eventually causing the mouse to become less responsive. Either window cleaner or lens cleaner will do.

I'm sure many people have tossed out their malfunctioning mouse when all it needed was just a quick cleaning to work like new again!

Learn to clean them with the ball type mouse. Now I have a wireless mouse and have to remember to charge it about once a month and at the same time I ensure that the optical sensor is clean

IF it's a ball mouse, the X-Y rollers are very dirty.
I used to scrape the gunk off the rollers on mine with a needle point pare of tweezers when this happened.

When I worked in a Zoology department it was someone's job every month to go around and make sure the mouse balls were clean. We cleaned them with alcohol wipes and everything went smoothly.

If you have another mouse, try it. If not, buy another. I seem to have them all over the house - no idea why, but I seem to like buying mice.

I have the occasional problem with my mouse. Sometimes, the computer doesn't detect it at all, and I have to re-boot. I keep a wired mouse handy in case the wireless starts acting up.

Before changing mice, power-down the computer.
Changed one one time without doing that, hung the computer.....
Had to power-down anyway.

That's where the gunk starts, on the ball.
The ball picks it up and eventually deposits it on the X-Y rollers.

Could also be a worn/dirty mouse pad surface.

I've been struggling with the same for a week or so, finally changed to a new (both corded) mouse, problem solved!! They do wear out.
