That sums it up right there. Forget the complaining. Use what you have that still works.

First: Not complaining, simply stating fact to set up the question.
Second: Simply asking people with the same problem how they handle the situation.
Third: If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I sometimes take one of these kneelers out with me, they fold flat, are light and very cheap. Just something else to carry though.
Turn upside down and it is a kneeler with handles to get you up, other way it is a stool.

That looks like just what I want. I won't even ask what it costs, just what is it called and where did you get it?

Garden Kneeler from Amazon - in the UK they cost about $12-$25 dollars. There are also stainless steel versions (not necessary) at over $100.

I pick up an nikon angle finder for my Nikon for $35.00 at a camera show you don't need to spend 150.00 x a third party works just as good look on line .

Thanks all for the information, and yes, it does beat the other alternative.

At 85 I know exactly what so many are saying. For really low shots and really high ones, I have found that the rotating screen on the back of my Canon 70D and now my 80D saves a lot of getting down and up.

P.S. Would definitely agree that old age with its aches and pains is far preferable to the alternative.

I'm glad that this was all of some help to you, and I got a few ideas as well. That garden kneeler looks especially helpful when my bad knee gets, inevitably, worse. Despite the occasional grouch, the knowledge and generosity on this website often makes me smile.

One of the former members of my photo club used to use a monopod. Take the image upside down. Works if you can see the monitor. Then use a remote to trigger the shutter.

I would suggest a battery of phys ther exercises that focus on flexibility and stretching. Last summer & fall I went through a battery of phys ther for the right IT Band (hip to ankle tendons), now I going through the same thing for the Left leg. Just strengthening exercises just deals with half the problem. I am 90.

I don't understand what happened but somewhere along the way I've gotten old. I am a hunter for as long as I can be although I am setting up a macro studio. I can no longer get down on one knee, let alone two knees or prone, and get up again without help. Are there any devices or methods that will allow me to continue to shoot ground level subjects for a while longer?

I have tried Live View but it is of limited value in bright sunlight. I have considered right angle finders for my D7200 but $179 is a lot of money for something that may not work. Any and all suggestions except, find somebody to go along with me, are greatly appreciated.

You, sir, are a prime candidate for something like the Arsenal that we've talked about here in uhh. It will cost you about what you say you don't want to pay but will solve all your problems you shared in this thread as long as you have a compatible cell phone to use as your controller and a low tripod to put your camera on. All the right angle viewers and articulating screens in the world will help if you can't get down to where you can see them. As is usual, a lot of people who don't understand your problem are presuming to give you advice. You can put your camera where you want it, sit back and control every aspect of your camera in complete comfort. By adding a remote motorized tripod head you can have even more flexibility. Camranger offers a complete package for doing that but for closer to $300. It won't help to have a stool to sit on if you can't see the LCD from where you are. With Camranger you can use a large tablet as your viewing screen. Use the search tool to find several recent threads here on uhh. Arsenal.com will take you to that site and camranger.com for that.

Being "of age" I jokingly call for a fork lift to get me off my knees. Darn thing never shows UP!! I like the articulating screen. For my EOS 77D I can connect to my smart phone so that my live view is operating in a stand up position. BUT ya gotta get the camera down there first. Otherwise, on camera live view works best with a "Dark Cloth--think view camera. I use my jacket over my head and I can see very well.

Keep shooting!

Maybe what's on your last card will surprise the folks left behind.

gessman may have the best solution for your situation money wise. The solution that I suggested works similar to the system gessman suggested. To give you a sample of how sucessful this method can be, the following web site will show you a picture where both the viewfinder and the back screen are on the ground (0 distance between them), but the picture was composed, focused, and exposure set from the cellphone. In this case, no special equipment was needed other than the camera and cellphone. The photo is by John Salvas and called "Visitor Tree".

And one more idea equipment wise. If my suggested selfie stick is too weak and cannot handle your camera's weight, and the motorized head that gessman suggested seems too costly, you might try a monopod with a Manfrotto clamp attached to the second from the bottom section. This would allow you to adjust the camera angle by the clamp and the height by sliding the bottom section up and down relative to the camera on the second section. Picture is still focused, composed, and exposure set by the cellphone along with a monopod that you can lean on.
