My knees are shot and I can no longer squat or get down on one knee. I did some photos the other day of some small flowers and ended up lying down to get the precise angle I wanted. But as others have noted, getting up again was an adventure, in and of itself.

I dropped an item the other day that proceeded to roll under the bed. It's still there.

I don't understand what happened but somewhere along the way I've gotten old. I am a hunter for as long as I can be although I am setting up a macro studio. I can no longer get down on one knee, let alone two knees or prone, and get up again without help. Are there any devices or methods that will allow me to continue to shoot ground level subjects for a while longer?

I have tried Live View but it is of limited value in bright sunlight. I have considered right angle finders for my D7200 but $179 is a lot of money for something that may not work. Any and all suggestions except, find somebody to go along with me, are greatly appreciated.

Old age sucks, but it beats the other alternative.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Two suggestions that I did and it has helped quite a lot. First, get a camera with an articulated screen. You can always adjust them such that they are useable even in bright light. It's expensive but worth it I think. Second, get a little 3-legged collapsible stool to carry and sit on to take the close to the ground shots.

I'm right there with you. All I know is, plan a lot of things to do while you are down there.😁 Really, what about changing your subject matter to things higher. I've chosen birds. Keep on keeping on!

Get an Olympus E-M5 mkII, Bluetooth / WiFi smartphone, and a selfie stick and you are in business. The selfie stick will get the camera where you need it and and the smartphone will take care of the focus, exposure, etc.

There are third party right angle finders that are pretty decent and can be had for 50 bucks or so. I have one and it works well.

Heartily agree about old age. I have trouble walking around with a DSLR around my neck.
I don't do macro except for copy work but when I use my D600 on a nine foot tripod I use Nikons wifi gadget and view and shoot using my smart phone.

Here is a handy tool that I use alot. These are sold in a variety of places. I think the true suction cups are important. Mine is from ArcMate - their web site has lots of options - like sock puter oners. Mine says Made in US, but I think some of their stuff is made elsewhere.

Seventy two is creeping up on me. I was having trouble getting up from a squat or on my knees. What I start doing was two minutes of squats with ten pound dumb bells in each hand. I do them three days a weeks. For me it seems to help. I don’t bounce up but I can get up without any assistance.

I'll be 92 this year and on a walker full time... still never any longer bend down... but I find that if I place the subject on a table I can sit and shoot. I sure feel for you poor whipper snappers.

Believe me I have not disappeared. In fact I have read each posting, including yours as you can tell.
