I might, Andy … a week from today - right? … But if I do - I will stay off the Pike!!!

I know those rural routes between Sturbridge, thru Worcester, and on to Newton … pretty well …

Lived in Boston for two years, Worcester for six months, and Sturbridge for another six months.

I think your memory may be from the days before "traffic". I have worked in Worcester for twenty years and go into downtown Boston on business several times a month. I can get from my office next to Worcester City Hall to federal and state offices next to Boston City Hall in about an hour. The last time I had to take surface roads (my transmission was broken, limiting me to 55 max) it took about an hour and forty five to make the same trip. There's no reason to do it except if you can't travel at highway speeds or need to save two dollars. I suppose the two bucks might by me a lens cap at the show!

Have fun if you go - it's from 9 to 4, but the early bird ($20 admission) period begins at 7:00, and the auction is right after the show. It's truly one of the highlights of my year.

Lived in Boston in 1970-1972 … first, in Back Bay … and then I moved near Boston College, and, finally - in a place in Brookline … Worcester came later - in the late 80s … Sturbridge was a little before …

This is from the link you put up … is the six bucks a misprint?

No, Sorry - I'm a member so it's four bucks. You'll have to avoid the tolls after all!

Says Seniors $4 … so, looks like I'll be paying the same …

BTW - it costs a whole lot more than a couple of bucks to go from Sturbridge all the way in to Boston …

It's more like ten bucks!!! … Even from Worcester - it's more than a couple bucks, Andy …

$4.50 from Sturbridge to Newton if you don't have an EZ Pass from any state. $2.70 with an out of state EZ Pass. $2.10 from Worcester. Did you get that from the same source that told you Newton was closer to Worcester than Boston? This is a route I drive several times a month, with an out of state EZ Pass, so I might have some more recent experience than you.

The bill I got last year for the drive I took from where I got on the Pike at Sturbridge, to where I got off in Brighton last Christmas Eve (2017) was in the teens … but, that probably included both there and back, Andy. … It always seemed to me - when I stayed in West Boyleston, and headed north from there - Newton was the very first town I came to … so, it always seemed closer to Worcester to me, than Framingham did.

Chris, I'm afraid your memory is failing you. Are you confusing Newton with Sterling or Princeton, which are the towns to the north of West Boylston?

West Boylston is northwest of Newton by at least 35 miles, with several towns in between. You have to go south through Shrewsbury, then east through Westborough, Northborough, Framingham, Natick, and Wellesley before you hit Newton. If you head north you go through Sterling or Princeton to the north, you can't go east without a boat because of Wachusett Reservoir, and south takes you to Worcester or Shrewsbury. I've commuted that route from Sterling to West Boylston to Worcester every day for the past twenty years. Just check the map linked above.

The toll from Sturbridge to Allston is $6.05 if you don't have an EZ Pass from anywhere, so I guess that would get you into the teens for a two way trip.

Andy … my apologies … I'd mixed up the town of Auburn (which IS one step removed from Worcester) with Newton - which, of course - is well beyond Framingham, which is only a little way east of Boyleston.
I knew all these places well, when it was my daily habitat … but Boston is now almost 50 years ago - and my stays in Sturbridge - more like 35 years ago, now, and West Bolyeston - a little more recent, but I'm sure it's understandable how it all gets mixed up, when it was all so long ago. I had GFs in Brookline, in Framingham, and in the Worcester area, and used to run up and see them quite often, even after leaving Boston … but, all that's long over with now. But, it was Auburn I was thinking of … NOT Newton. Sorry.

It is a great time, happens every April. One of my favorite signs of spring. You can find virtually anything possible from the film era and a heckuva a lot of digital stuff as well. Most of the dealers are very generous with their time, and you'll be able to handle all kinds of gear you may never have seen in the flesh before. Last year I got to handle a "Rectaflex" - Google that one for a surprise!

Hope to see you there!

Makes me wonder what part of the body a Rectaflex is designed for. An unfortunate choice of a name.

Indeed! It was one of the earliest with an “erecting” prism, but that raises other issues, doesn’t it?
