Thank you Blair Shaw Jr. I am lucky to be able to go to Laguna Seca frequently and I'm happy to share this special place.

As a photojournalist/ editor,

I would like to offer a suggestion if you were to consider these for print.

Try to reduce the color saturation and HDR effect to the back-round. The speed effect will benefit greatly from a softer/ less busy flow.

HDR style may be specific for you, so please take this as friendly, and disregard my comment in that case.

I appreciate your suggestions catchlight. I've been taking photos for a long time, but the 80D is my first DSLR (I've had it a little over two years, but have been shooting RAW about a year) and I only started post processing late last year, so any suggestions are welcome. I have only scratched the surface in Lightroom and have not had the time to try Photoshop.

I’ve attended races at Laguna Seca, and it’s a legendary track for all types of racing. i’d Be interested to know what shutter speed you used and if your lens had VR/IS, if you used it and what mode you were in. Last time I shot SCCA races at VIR, I believe I was shooting at 1/125 or 1/250 and panning with the IS on and in the mode that corrects vertical motion only, but I was farther away from the action than you were.

All were shot with a Canon 80D using the EF 70-300 4.5-5.6 IS II USM in spot metering mode with the IS on normal mode at 70mm (112mm equivalent on the 80D). The first one was at ISO 400 and f/20, the second and third at ISO 100 and f/11 and f/9 respectively; all three at 1/200 second.

Very good set. You really nailed the third shot with just a bit more space on the left side. Well done. Would you share you shutter speed and f-stop info?

Thank you for the kind words JFCoupe. I'm always anxious to get home and see what I managed to capture (though I sometimes camp at the track for the weekend and have to wait). If you look at my avatar, these photos were taken on the short straight that is right behind my left shoulder, just past the bridge with Mazda on it (it was Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca until recently, when it became Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca). My avatar photo was taken at my usual campsite called Corkscrew View.

As I noted in a reply to TriX a few minutes ago, All were shot with a Canon 80D using the EF 70-300 4.5-5.6 IS II USM in spot metering mode with the IS on normal mode at 70mm (112mm equivalent on the 80D). The first one was at ISO 400 and f/20, the second and third at ISO 100 and f/11 and f/9 respectively; all three at 1/200 second. All were taken in burst mode at 7 FPS.

Good job with the panning, the blurred background really portrays the speed of the cars. Nice sharp images of the cars themselves.

Thank you for the kind words FL Streetrodder. If you ever make to Central California, Laguna Seca is a great place to watch racing in a beautiful area that includes Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel and the Big Sur Coast.

Thank you Angler. You're about as close to a place on my bucket list (Silverstone) as I am to Laguna Seca.

👍👍 I think lunch at Nepenthe’s outside deck, looking over Big Sur has to be one of the prettiest views on the planet.

Agree! Here's a photo I took from there in November 2015 with my Canon SX 40 HS. It was an amazing day for November 21.
