I understand that it is an expensive lens and a lot for one f stop. This is Sony's G Master lens. What about the quality and sharpness of the 2.8? I'm thinking my f 4 lens is a kit lens. A good lens but would not the quality of the G Master be worth something?

The money question is one that only you can answer. Good glass is always good glass but only if you can realistically afford it.

Are you dissatisfied with the results you are getting with your f4? Have you gone to DxOMark to compare the two lenses?

Not really dissatisfied. Just trying to improve and am thinking a new lens might help. Just exploring my options.

I really doubt that going from a 4 to a 2.8 will improve your photography. It looks like it is more of a want than a need.
But if you want to impress people that you don't know, go ahead.
How big do you make your photographs, what ISO do you use. What SS? These will probably have more effect on your photographs.

The size of my prints and ISO vary depending on what I'm shooting. You are correct, it is more of a want than a need. Being an amateur I'm looking for any advantage and fortunately can afford the 2.8 if that's what I decide. I'm retired from my own business and the Navy and have long since quit worrying about impressing anybody with anything. Thanks for the snarky reply.
