I think your best bet is to buy a used or refurbished camera and zoom. I would suggest a micro 4/3s like Olympus or Panasonic and Olympus 14-150 II zoom (equivalent 28-300). You will need the reach and there’s lots of wildlife.

You are looking at renting for a month. At that rate you would probably be better off buying used gear from KEH or MBP well in advance and give your self time to learn how to use it. If you aren't prepared to lean how to use the cameras features, you may as well stick with your phone camera. If you don't want to tie up too much money in gear, you can sell it on eBay when you get back and your out-of-pocket will probably be close to a wash with the cost of renting.

I agree

I second buying a decent point-and-shoot beforehand and getting used to it. You can always sell it easily later. Renting for a month is expensive. My first pics on my last Glacier trip a few years ago were of fenceposts because I had grabbed my son's camera and didn't even know where the shutter button was! My photos were all done in auto mode. I'm sure I missed a lot of images because I didn't know my camera.

The only general information I could provide is DON'T rent the camera right before your trip or while you are there. You'll need to learn whatever equipment you use so that you're not having to think about what do I do next all the time. Rent it substantially ahead of your trip so you can use and get accustomed to how it works.

This fall my wife and I will be visiting Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP and Grand Teton NP, about 24 days all together. We are flying from Michigan to Montana and then renting a car.

I am interested in renting a camera and lens or lenses to capture stills and video. I am very interested in any advice and recommendations you can share regarding what camera and lens I should rent. Also where I can rent this equipment. My skill level is slightly above novice.

Thanks

Good suggestion, I will look into it. Thanks!
We are flying in to Kalispell, Montana, and flying out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

I have D7500 and was going to rent D810 for western parks tour in spring. I bought a D810 and sure glad I didnt rent it for a vacation week. There is a learning curve with any camera. I would have made a big mistake to rent for a trip. Have had it for a month and just now comfortable with it.

It would help if you tell us what you have been using and why you don't want to bring it. We have no way of telling if you want a point and shoot or a top of the line DSLR or better.

I like Lensrentals.
Get a Canon 7D MII, Canon EF-S 10-18mm zoom and a Canon EF-S 18-200mm zoom.
Or if weight is a concern get the Canon M50, Canon EFM 15-45mm zoom and a Canon EFM 55-200mm zoom

I second the Nikon P900. It is a bridge camera that only shoots jpg. You can use the very good viewfinder or the totally rotatable LCD for framing your shots. The reach is incredible-from 24 wide to 2000 telephoto. All in one camera. New should run about $500US. You can easily use the built in WiFi to upload photos to your iPhone at full resolution. The camera features a four axis level virtual horizon (side to side and front to back) so your photo will be level. Add to that the full auto mode and it will be like using your iPhone. And if you have shaky hands the built in vibration reduction and IR remote eliminates camera shake. I have one, duh, and love it (along with my Nikon 1J5). PM me if you have any other questions.

We are doing a similar trip in September this year. I'm curious as to your itinerary?
