Great shots of my favorite bird. We had plenty when I lived back in PA and they were just as you said. They would fly in, land under the bushes, jump out and grab some fall-off from the feeder and right back under the bush to hide. Only once did I see one on the feeder.

Beautiful shot, a great job on these. Any "drink your tee" birds around here have sadly been scared away by some pesky hawks saying "I'm looking for something to eat, with my tee".

Thank you, doc. They are big favorites of mine and are fun to watch, and have such pretty colors. I have never seen one on any feeder but have seen them on a branch up in a tree
Singing their unique songs.

Lol! Thank you for your comment and the great big laugh, james! I have seen one of those pesky hawks a time or two but the birds stayed anyway.

eastern towhees, also called joree birds, sing a telltale song "drink your teeeeee!" "drink your teeeeee!",
and "chewink"!. they scratch vigorously in fallen leaves looking for bugs, spiders, seeds, berries, and,

of course...peanut butter suet. I am always thrilled to see one and actually
get a shot. the female is equally beautiful but more shy and stayed hidden in the brush.

These are nice Merry. They are not an easy bird to photograph, they are ground feeders and quick to run for cover. Good job catching them. We have Spotted and Calif. Towhees in our yard. I learned the name Rufous-sided Towhee as a child but that name has been dropped and that group of birds split into Eastern and Spotted Towhees. They are cool birds, nice work with this one!

Thank you, phil. They are constantly moving around and I felt very lucky to get a decent shot. I appreciate your comment!

Thank you, corky! They stay hidden . They perch on the branch of a tree to sing sometimes but it's usually too shady. They visit the birdbath late in the evening sometimes which is a good time to see them.
