Professionals use Apple. Their jobs and income depend on results. Laptops are not good for editing images. The resolution and screen size is too limiting.
Apple monitors have PERFECT color out of the box and retain it.

You pbly dont need a 4k display. While things are sharper, they're also smaller.
Bought one, wish I hadn't.

Wow, that’s so 20 years ago. Sure I edit on Apple products, an iPhone and an iPad. I also use an HP laptop. It runs LR & PS just as well as a Mac. It depends on the purpose. If it’s just being published online I’ve gotten excellent results with all three. If it’s for print, then I’ll make sure my laptop is connected to a calibrated monitor.

My budget is $800 ish. Less if possible. Unfortunately I don't use Mac.
Expand your horizons. Peer out the Window and look at a used Mac's.
IF you are not going to move it around much I'd consider a 17" laptop, I used a 17" HP I5 to edit for a long time, found I almost never moved the laptop, so when it died I moved to a 24" all in one, Hp I5, get lots of memory, very happy , Bob.
I have been running a Macbook Pro, mid 2012 (last year you can upgrade) with a 27" external monitor for several years now. Pick one up on eBay for around $600. Very dependable and plenty to meet your current needs. That said, I recently bought a PC, 32GB Ram, etc. because I found Topaz Studio was bogging down my Mac. About $1200.
I just bought a Lenovo 13" laptop for travel. used it for 2 weeks and it gets the job done. cost around $1000. I run lightroom and attach a ssd for backup. put new files and catalog on the built in ssd. then move them to main computer when I get back and delete then from laptop.
8th gen i7, 12 ram, 256gig ssd builtin, 14" 1920x1080 screen. not strong enough to be my primary computer, but works just fine for trips and can take as many photos as I want with the external ssd I carry.

Great explanation Gene. Your impartial and objective points make this unarguable.
Gene is "da man", IMO. Had a PC built to his specifications and it is a "killer". Less than $2K.

Don't feel bad... I don't use one either, and, don't feel bad about it. Macs tend to be more pricey.
You might want to look into an inexpensive gaming machine with a good screen... for speed and graphics... gaming and quality colour rendition monitors are not often found together.

I found that you get really good laptops on Amazon for decent prices.
My first choice would be Apple.

Hi all. I have recently renewed my interest in photography, after a few years away from it. With that being said, I find there have been huge technical advances in the field.
My skill level is basically still a beginner, as I am just scratching at the surface of manual use of my camera.
I recently purchased a Canon t7i and have been getting familiar with it.
So anyway, thinking it's time to purchase a laptop for photo editing.
Don't want to sell the farm, but would like something that I won't outgrow anytime soon.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 😊
