John, here's my interpretation of the original color version. There is lot of luminosity masking and adjustments, as well as selective burning and dodging. Finally, an overall vignette centered on the light. Then for the final touch, I gave it a very light sepia toning.

Thank you, alliebess. I don't usually post edited versions of other's photographs, but the OP asked for some comments and thus I took it as permission to express in one picture what a 1000 words would have taken.

Wow, Bob thanks for opening my eyes to the possibilities of things that can be done. I have a ways to go in post processing to take on selective masking, burning, layering, etc. I really like the vignette centered on the light. It really gives life to the photo and brings the eye to it. I really like the things you've demonstrated and appreciate the time and effort your spent doing it. That was certainly more than I ever expected. Currently I'm only using Affinity apps that come with the Mac Photos software and six or seven extensions. I can see I need to up my game. THANKS AGAIN - John

Bob, this is my second reply to your post and I don't know the order you will see them. This is an addendum. I went back and looked at your work and realized more fully why I like it. It better tells a story. It is now a photo of some antique tools that were left in place when they finished their last job. A 100 years have passed in an old barn or shed and now they've been found and photographed with all the accumulated dirt and grim. THAT IS REALLY COOL. I better understand your comment on potential. Not sure that's what you meant, but that's what I see. Thanks Again - John

John, I saw both of your replies, and in the order you posted them. My comment on potential was meant exactly as you understood it. Cheers.

What a wonderful still life, and what makes it special for me, is the debri on the table. It makes me wonder what job was being done that last time they were used. Thanks for sharing your work

Thank you Lensbaby for viewing and your comment. The whole exercise has been a lot of fun. I'm 75 and these were my grandfather's, so they are real antiques.
