I thought this was your first time replying to one of my posting!
Snap Shot, As you may recall, I am a big fan of your processed flower pictures and look forward to seeing them often. Your question brings up a frequent "concern" of mine. I share ed3's concern that #2, to me, does not look like a photo but is a very nice piece of digital art. So it comes down to an individual preference for what we want to "see" in our finished photos. I think #2 is a great photo but it does leave me with the feeling of being unreal - which is no big thing in the end. Clearly, if I had taken #1, I would have processed it as well and ended up with a different #2 which just exemplifies that it is a matter of individual preference. In any case, keep it up. I enjoy seeing your work.

Scotty, the bottom line in all this is that there is NO Right OR Wrong! Such is Art! As Art, this is my style, be it flowers or anything else I shoot and I'm sticking to it! I suggest to those who don't like it or disagree to not watch it with out all the jabs and know-it-all attitudes! I thank you for your support!
I agree...less post processing would have made a better picture

Thanks for commenting Meadwilliam! That's why your TV has a channel changer! See something you don't like, you switch the channel! Lincoln had it right, "You can't please all the people all the time"! It's always nice to see a new visitor!

Nice job. Makes the photo stand out and much more interesting.
Beautiful work, Bill! Love the shot and processing!
Reading others comments makes me think this discussion must be similar to what goes on between realists and impressionists in the art world. Imagine how boring life would be if we all thought exactly the same things in exactly the same way.
Regarding these images, #1 is a little too SOOC for me. As a minimum I think it would benefit from a boost in contrast. I find the subject interesting and like the composition, but the flat lighting tends to obscure the detail that obviously is there. So in this case, I vote for #2. Nice job.
I guess uglyhedgehog viewers don’t want any negative comments, but I could say the same thing back to you. If you don’t like my feedback, ignore it.
If you are satisfied with a point and shoot then #1 is it but if you see the camera as an artistic tool then it’s #2.Myself I like the artistic route.

Thanks so much Carol for your kind reply! You always encourage me to keep going forward! BTW, my eye doctor gave me great news this morning! I'm doing great and all is getting better!
That is encouraging news, Bill! I'm very glad to hear it.
What a wonderful shot of old and reclaimed wood. I enjoy the camera's eye as to what the wood actually looks like. Your processed version is what a woodworker may try to bring out in the wood as he would envision it. Mahalo for sharing.
