The fort at San Juan, Puerto Rico. I had a Hasselblad on a tripod. The National Park Guard said I needed to apply and pay for a permit--it takes about 10 days to get approved. I wasn't going to be there that long. Told him the woman that I was with was my girlfriend and I was just a tourist. He wasn't having it. Maybe the fact she was about 25 years younger than me gave it away. Anyway, I got the boot.

May I ask when was this? I can't count how many times I've been in El Morro and the perhaps hundreds of shots I've taken. I wonder if you either got an overzealous guard or it is a recent way to get money due to the budget cuts all over the place. But looks to me that if they wanted your money they could have sold you a permit right there. That sucks. I'm sorry that you could not get any pictures. This photo is from last May.

3rd row center at a Fleetwood Mac show. Got careless and let the black sock slip and show my 70-200 L lens. Security stormed down on me. Quickly pulled out the CF card and then deleted the empty card in the second slot while they watched. They were mostly pissed that I somehow smuggled in a 5Diii and L series lens and would not tell them how I did it. They let me stay after I pointed out they were not hassling the cell phone users streaming and taking photos.

El Morro as with most National Parks require a permit with a tripod

Two times.

The first one at the General Electric Jet Engine assembly plant in Evendale, Ohio. We were on a tour. We got on the bus and the guide climbed on shortly after. As we were about to move I politely asked if I could take pictures. There were no signs by the way. The guide opened his eyes wide as if he just found I was a Russian spy and he said "You have a camera?!! Come with me now!". He got me by the arm from the middle of the bus where I was. Stepped out of the bus and took me to the guard shack to check my camera in until we left the property. I wonder if had not say anything and they would have caught me sneaking a photo.

The second time was at the basement of the Taj Mahal in Agra, India, where the real graves of Shah Jahaan and his wife are. No signs either, although the guide said something about no pictures. I was shooting film and turned the flash off. Took a picture and for all purposes no one would have known. What I didn't know was that it was my last frame and the camera started to automatically roll the film back into the cartridge, making this loud high pitch noise which gave me away. And got me a stern reminder from the guide.

Martha Jimenez Studio, Cuba. I was so enthralled with the3 artwork, I never noticed the small red cameras with the red stop circle on the wall. In fact, there were several of them. I bought a painting, so all was good in the end.

I was asked to not take fotos at the Biltmore Mansion in NC. And when asked to do team fotos of a girls softball team on arrival at the field was told to leave. "We have our own photographers here". This was in TN.

I didn't have a Hasselblad on a tripod, but I got many shots two weeks ago with no interference.

The Colosseum in Rome, although it was not about taking photos. I had been walking all day and had my tripod with me. I told them I would not use it but the guard was about to throw me out - after paying - no matter what I said. My tour guide interceded and said she would take the tripod for the duration of my stay, so that I would not be tempted. The guard knew her and relented. She gave it back to me at the first turn, but cautioned that they were very serious about that point. It was a night tour and I took a lot of shots, but did not use the tripod. I did not want to compromise my guide's position.

In Lampe, Missouri during a Lynyrd Skynyrd show ( the 90s band) and we were front row. Got some excellent pictures when the security guy was going to take my camera.
They didn’t know we were friends with the road manager and most of the band and they didn’t take my camera. 😂

Second was filming out the back of our station wagon while driving along the flight line at Nellis AFB
Interesting few hours at Provost Marshall's HQ.

Wowza! So have you posted any Stones pics?? Next to the original Lynyrd Skynyrd RONNIE VANZANT, the stones are my second favorite. In 76 they opened for the stones and mick jagger was probably afraid to even try to top them

Lucky you, you weren't forced to disembark in the middle of the ocean.

Yes, there are numerous instances of U.S. Law Enforcement officials giving on-the-spot verbal orders forbidding photography & video-recording for unconstitutional reasons. Such incidents are available for review on YouTube.

But the reason I’m posting a response is because of one particular sentence that jwn wrote, highlighted above in boldface. I admit that I have, verbally only, made such remarks to a friend or very small group of friends in the past (and yes, I am caucasian,) but self-restraint would prohibit me from writing such a sentence publicly, unless there was a point in stating the race, religion, or ethnicity of a particular individual which was pertinent to the story.

I am not so much scolding jwn as I am reminding him that under many circumstances, "P.C." is not a dirty word. I wouldn’t be surprised if more than one Hog would take serious exception to jwn's apparent need to convey an individual stranger’s race in an anecdote that has nothing to do with race. Or does it, jwn? Perhaps you inadvertently forgot to include some pertinent context that you meant to share with us?

To the OP, please understand that I am NOT trying to hijack your topic, but I cannot let that remark in its present form go unaddressed.

P.S. For those WHITE American "conservative-minded" individuals who are contemplating a negative response to the preceding, such as that I'm being too PC or that I should mellow out, $crew you. It is a mindset that we all need to get rid of, no matter who the President of the United States is!
