I just did this. I received a lot of great suggestions, did a lot of research, compared many photographs side by side and bought a new D7200 for $695 with accessories. I am exceptionally happy with my choice. Don't spend more on the D7500. You could not look at a photograph and figure out which camera was used.

"Better" is a relative term. I examined both, and chose the D7200. It has two card slots, while the D7500 has one card slot. The D7500 gets more frames per second on burst mode. The D7200 has more megapixels. The D7500 is more expensive. The D7200 is older, cheaper, and can use older, low priced, Ai-S lenses, but the D7500 can not. The D7500 has a flip up / down touch screen, but the D7200 does not. What means the most to you? If you feel the need for a touch screen, get the D7500. If you want the most bang for the least bucks, get the D7200.

For a couple of years, I shot with the 7200, never disappointed me, it proved to be a super camera. I know use it as a back up camera to my D850.
I do not know anything about the 7500.

With mirrorless cameras slowly taking over the photography business, especially from Nikon and Canon, people can get some fantastic deals on used and refurbished DSLR's.

The D7200 is the absolute best bang for the buck. I own three and love that camera body because it really can handle basically any task you might throw at it for the absolute best price for a brand new USA camera body. My oldest D7200 camera has over 300K shutter clicks and still working (I take care of my equipment so your results will vary).

Thanks,
Jim

Which is better for you?

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

I have the D7200 very satisfied with it. I do wish it had a flippy screen as I use that feature a lot on my bodies that have it, also the grip on the D7500 is a little more comfortable for me but as others have said only 1 card slot, I like having two, have my D7200 set up to record video to the second card, and my older AIS lenses don't meter on the D7500 so for me I am staying with the D7200.

Your skills as a photographer are more important than the camera itself unless one of them have features that you need in your photography which are lacking in the other.

As an old Nikon Rep. I can tell you that either will give you excellent images. You should go on line and enter this in the search box, "compair the Nikon D7500 and the Nikon D7200". You will get more than enough information to make your decision.
Right now Nikon is almost giving away the D7200.
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1127271-REG/nikon_1554_d7200_dslr_camera_body.html?sts=pi
I see the major differences as these.
1. The D7200 has the Exceed 4 processor and the D7500 has the Exceed 5 processor. And yes, there is a difference between them, the Exceed 5 processor is newer than the Exceed 4 processor. Will you see a difference, probably not.
2. The D7200 has two memory card slots, the D7500 has one, BIG DEAL, I was a professional photographer for over 35 years and only had one roll of film in the camera at a time. If you are not a professional photographer you will hardly need two slots PERIOD. End of story.
3. The D7500 has GROUP AUTO FOCUS, the D7200 does not, if you want to shoot a LOT of moving objects, birds, people, things, this is a great tool to use. If you just want general photo's then the D7200 is the camera for you.
I am sure others will bring up more info on why they like a particular camera model.
But, really, either camera will deliver Sharp, well exposed, color perfect images.
But, you should go on line and read all their is to know about comparing the two camera's.
I have used both and they are both wonderful camera's. HEY, they are both Nikon's, so, you can't loose.

I went with the 7200... And love it... Go into your local store and get hands on. Feel the difference, then do a side by side comparison on the net.....I think you will go 7200 also.

That flippy screen thing on the D7500 would be VERY useful!! However, the loss of use of older AF lenses would make me hesitate, in my opinion. The one SD card thing...meh..... Not a deal breaker unless you shoot weddings or pro work.

I bought a D 610 from KEH and am very satisfied . The 850 was too heavy for my 50-500.
