Which is better, the Nikon D7500 or D7200. I need a new camera.
Nikon D850 - simply the best they have ever made
I have a 7200 and like it a lot. I love having the two memory cards.

In my opinion, I would go with the D7200.
Both good cameras. The D7500 has a newer processor and I believe is a little smaller and lighter but in my opinion the D7200 is the second best crop sensor camera Nikon has made. Only the D500 beats it. And with the price cuts on the D7200 it’s a great deal right now.

There’s always one.
Who am I kidding. There’s always a multitude.
It's pretty much a toss up between these two. The only thing I can think of that might make a difference is the D7500 is two years newer. You can't lose with either of these two. Good luck.

Right now you can get the D7200 for about $450 less. Under $700 for just the body, under $1000 if you get it with the 18-140 lens.

I agree with Ched that you can't lose with either th D7200 or D7500

The only drawback for me is the D7500 only has one card slot.
CBW why do you need a new camera?
Without knowing what genre you work in it is virtually impossible to guide you to either option.
I shoot commercially and use the D7200... without the ability for mirroring images to a second card I wouldn't consider the D7500. I have at times had to hand over my card to the lead photographer when shooting wedding events (as a second shooter)... Think about that, k? Nope two card slots are always included on high end Pro cameras...
The image quality is superior on the D7200... Not only is this my option it is validated by DXOmark
https://www.dxomark.com/best-nikon-cameras-under-45200-dollarsI'm not a major fan of plastic bodies... period... Like all Nikon pro bodies the D7200 features magnesium alloy.
The single most compelling reason to purchase the D7500 may likely be for those who like to "spray & pray" since it offers 8 fps over the 6 fps of the D7200 and a larger buffer size... Neither of these are of merit for the assignments I book...
Have you given any thought to the D810? It is the same generation of the D7200 and has pretty much the same features except a 36 megapixel sensor... I shoot both the D7200 and the D810 and find that they are ideal for my needs... Remember I don't have a clue as to what your actual "Needs" are thus can only reflect on what works for me....
I wish you well on your journey CBW

Do you give any weight to the price?
Regardless of price it's tough to say which one is better. The D7500 has fewer pixels but not much. It can't meter with manual lenses although it can use them. It faster than the D7200.
With consideration for price the D7200 is definitely the better choice in my view. The D7500 is 64% more expensive than the D7200.

With mirrorless cameras slowly taking over the photography business, especially from Nikon and Canon, people can get some fantastic deals on used and refurbished DSLR's.
