Markets, Las Rambles, Gaudi. We were there during the unrest of the fall of 2017 and got to enjoy a demonstration of 400,000 people right outside of our apartment! A link to some photos.... https://flic.kr/s/aHsmaRKZXA

What are some great photo opportunities in Barcelona, Spain. Do you have any captures from previous visits?

I didn't do this but my wife did, and i wish I'd gone in, too.
She went back into the cathedral at sundown and said the light through the stained glass was magical. I second Montserrat for sure. The park, too. The Boqueria i can take or leave - one of my friends is the manager of 3 restaurants surrounding it and it seems to me ro be more for tourists. Little quirk - there's a Museum of Chocolate with some astounding choc sculptures.

Without question, number one on your list should be the La Sagrada Familia. This is a church that was designed by architect, Antoni Gaudí, who died after he was hit by a tram in 1926 and it is still under construction. Currently, it is projected for completion in 2026 at which time the construction will have taken 144 years. Compared to that church, everything else in Barcelona is anticlimactic!

You need to buy your tickets well in advance. Tickets are for a specific time and you must be at the appointed place at that time to gain entrance. After the tour you can stay inside as long as you want. There is a lot to photograph.

All these replies were great. Barcelona has many wonderful sights to see and experience, but the one thing nobody ... that I read ... mentioned, are the Castellers. These are people, usually of extended families, who create human towers about three or four stories high. There are different groups, all wearing different brightly colored outfits, and all helping each other, who form these remarkable improvisations. The whole thing is usually topped by a little kid, who only stands up there for a split second. There's a website, http://www.cccc.cat/, that will tell you where and when these groups will perform. It's in Spanish, but you can always use a translator to learn its contents.

The pic I am attaching was taken in really lousy weather photowise, but you'll still get the idea.

Good luck

Some of the things you want to see:

- La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi's church (you need to purchase tickets in advance)
- Park Guell, another Gaudi creation (you need to purchase tickets in advance)
- Casa Batllo, another Gaudi creation

Palau de la Música Catalana - concert venue with amazing architecture inside and out. I recommend a concert if it works for you. Wonderful cafe for tapas and cava pre-concert.

But to Barcelona, one of my absolute favorite cities, rather than give photo opportunity advice I will give security advice. Barcelona, like many tourist laden cities is full of thieves. Mostly petty opportunists but none this less can ruin your day. Don't be afraid of the city but use common sense. I use a cut resistant camera strap such as PacSafe and security day bags again from PacSafe or Travelon.
Have a great time in that great city.

I guess I’m just lucky, but I scared myself silly prior to going to Barcelona and Saint Petersburg, but I had absolutely no problem with theft in either city and I was not taking extraordinary precautions. My camera on a cross strap was a Nikon D 800 in Russia and a Fuji X-T2 in Spain.

Look up all the Gaudi building, especially the sagrida familia.

Also, the Salvador Dali house and museum (both near Barcelona) are well worth a visit. You can get a day tour from Barcelona to do both.

My wife and I were in Barcelona in November. A beautiful city. Everything we saw had already been posted. We used a private guide and he warned us both about pickpockets (I used an RFID wallet that looped over my belt and was carried on the inside of pants) and slash and grab camera thieves (I used a camera strap with embedded wires which was difficult to cut). I got by with a 28-300 lens. I would have liked a little more at the lower end but never had to change the lens minimizing both dust and the risk of someone grabbing one of my lenses. Have a safe trip and enjoy this beautiful city.

Walk along "Las Ramblas" from Plaza de Catalunya to the harbour, stacks of opportunities along this famous street, you'll have to put up with 1000's of other people though. Make sure go there at night when it's dark as well as during the day.
Catch a hop on/hop off bus in the Plaza de Catalunya and you will see a lot more.

Interesting to be sure, but a place where you should certainly be careful -- I saw someone grab a camera off a guy on Las Ramblas and was repeatedly warned about camera thefts in this one area, partly because it is so crowded and there are so many tourists there, especially when the big ships come in. The rest of Barcelona is not so bad. I would recommend the Cathedral and other buildings in the Gothic Quarter, La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, the Palau, the various Gaudi houses. I always like to take the Hop-On, Hop-off bus to scope out the city and see what places would be interesting to return to. I agree that Montserrat is amazing.

There is a multitude of photo opportunities in Barcelona; The Gaudi emporium, is fantastic, but always crowded; be careful if you go down the Ramblas. it is always crowded, and the thieves are looking out for ANY chance to pinch any tourist cameras, believe me. But there are beautiful places everywhere in Spain to photograph- too many to mention really. Have fun !

only had point and shoot on my business trip that took me through Barcelona and I had to walk a pretty good ways to Sagrada Familia.......but very much worth it. A truly amazing place and the work of many lifetimes being poured into it by master craftsmen.
