Google search is very frustrating

It used to be I could search for a topic and get instant results. Now, why is it I get only page after page of links and never an answer to my question? There was an article about "skip scanners" leaving Walmart and I did a search "What is a skip scanner?" and never did find out. Clicking on a link just takes me to more pages with more links. I give up!

I hate Googling a phone number... You get a crap load of sites that will search for the number...
Duh, that's what I'm doing... Looking for results, not another place to try a search.
I feel for ya. Pages & pages of references to the JAVA method "scanner.skip.()".

EDIT:
I used BING, Is this it???: https://getskip.com/

In the context of Walmart, a skip scanner is a customer using a self scan device and who fails to scan one or more items (perhaps mistakenly or even deliberately). To combat this more checks are being made on self scanners at the check outs.

Skip Scanning (not in connection with Walmarts) is a piece of Java code which enables bar code readers to ignore one or more characters in a bar code.

Phraseology is very relevant when Googling - I entered "Skip scanners leaving Walmart" for the first answer and "Skip Scanner" gave me the second.

I too use Bing rather than Google.

Yes, it can be frustrating, but "skip scanner" is a more popular term in Java than it is in common usage. I knew what the term meant, so I could word the search differently.

Thanks everyone for the info on skip scanners, but that still doesn't moderate my frustration with the search engines just giving lots more pages of links instead of giving info on the item in question.

This is referred to in some of the Walmart replies as being kicked out of their stores.

check whether the top few items are sponsored ads - those are often just links to other generic search engines that bought one of the words you used - scroll down a bit and you should find 'legitimate' results

I have scrolled a considerable amount without improved results but I'll give another go. Thanks for your interest in helping. It used to be that I always immediately got the answer to my inquiry without delay. Somethin has sure changed.

One has to wade through all the advertising that is now triggered by any search.

Google is making money out of sellers so most queries go to retail outlets.
There are other search engines......!

I stopped using Google long ago. Try Bing.com and for looking up phone numbers try 800notes.com

Try DuckDuckGo! Works well and doesn't track you!

Once I made sure that I was using 'Google Chrome" I no longer have a problem with my searches! Both "Bing" and "Yahoo Search" seem to bring up every ad that they can ... I stopped searching before I found the Chrome fix ... and they seem to take over your search every chance they get ...

PS: I also made sure that I had no other search engines on my machine and that "Google Chrome" was my default search engine.
