You wrote: "I should not be judgmental..." I ask, "Why not?" Perhaps a little more well considered judgement is just what is needed lately.

There's still time for the parents of these kids to contact William Singer (as in Felicity Huffman), before he gets carted off to jail. I've heard that he can get a kid into the 7th grade of their choice with guaranteed entry later on into Stanford or Yale when the time comes. And the nice thing is they don't have to study or put any effort into it. No homework...no tests... no anything!!! As long as the parents can pony up hundreds of thousands of dollars, they're in. What they'll use for brains is anybody's guess.

Both students and teachers are dealing with so many factors impacting education today. Single parent households, families living in shelters, cars, etc, lack of adequate food and so many more issues.

Add in the reluctance of so many to fund education through taxes and pay for teachers not being at a level that attracts more talent to the ranks of teachers.

I think it is important that school systems make changes today to identify underperforming students before they get to sixth grade and do not qualify for graduation. Then these students need to have access to programs to help them 'catch up' to their peers.

Then we can all celebrate together and reap the benefits of successful students.

I think A's and B's on a report card would have made the 'excellers' feel good without pomp and circumstance. Kids who are being kept back shouldn't have it rubbed in their faces by a graduation exercise that they will not be a participant.

You mean like an incentive to do well in order to graduate?
Then we should abolish all graduation exercises so no one feels bad.........

It is not rubbing it in their faces at all. It is celebrating the fact that these kids did the work and are being rewarded for it. If we all went with your opinion there would never be any awards given for anything, no ceremonies to celebrate someone or some people who did better than the rest. You are taking the Socialist view that we all work for the common good and nobody should be celebrated for what they contribute or accomplish. When the world gets the word that in Socialism, as you seem to subscribe to, gets around, nobody will be willing to go the extra mile, nobody will volunteer to do something that might be dangerous or will take more time. Why should they. There will be no more money for the extra effort, no recognition even for a job well done. Everyone will be recognized for what you alone accomplished. Pretty F'ed up situation, huh?

Maybe the kids who feel bad would feel better had they worked as everyone else did. I am 73. I look back at others I went to school with, worked with, served with in the military etc. and have never once begrudged any one of those people for receiving awards that I did not receive. I knew that had I worked harder, longer, faster I could have achieved A's or a raise or maybe the recognition that those people received.

All the rage now is to wag the tail of the dog. People aren't supposed to give their kids good or expensive Christmas presents because other kids may not have those same presents. Sorry but that is tough. I have had other kids parents/grandparents buy them a new car for high school graduation while my brother and I had to share a used vehicle we paid for ourselves with my mom co-signing. We never felt bad for our friend who had the new vehicle. We were happy for him. Why shouldn't we be.

Stop with the Socialist horse shit. Kids feel bad only because they are told by you SJW that they are supposed to feel bad. Better to tell them that if they work hard they can have the very same things that others have.

Dear Dennis,
If you knew me you would know that I am about 180 degrees away from the views of AOC and her socialist bull. I'm just coming from Old School where none of this stuff was found to be necessary. You either got on the Honor Roll or you didn't. I'm a no frills kind of person. I do not believe in the grading systems they use today where they use a curve to decide what is a passing grade. You either did your homework or you didn't. I don't believe in having all these social workers descending on a school system when something drastic happens. Kids have to grow up somewhere along the line. Kids today are growing up to be wimps. Tough it out. We did and it helped us in the long run to handle the adult world a lot easier than what these kids are finding today. When my kid asked me how much I was going to give him for a car I just looked at him and made a circle between my thumb and index finger and said "zero". Then we wanted to know what I was going to give him for car insurance I did the same finger thing and said, "ditto". He got working papers when he was 14 to earn the money for a car and to insure it when the time came. Parents today find it too easy to give in to kids and they are afraid to punish their kids if the kids are really bad because the government will step in take your kids away and throw you in jail. A good swat on the rear at the right time never hurt anyone and I never got a licking I didn't deserve. If I was parenting today and my kid wanted a phone, he'd be working for it AND to pay the monthly bill for it. It is called responsibility. And no I was never one to begrudge someone because they had more than I did, still don't. I'm a captalist to the bone and don't feel that people should be punished because they are successful. What is happening today scares the daylights out of me because these young people who are pushing for Socialism and point to Canada and other countries as being successful with socialism, do not know the difference between Socialism and a Social Democracy which is a blend of capitalism and socialism. They overlook the poverty of Cuba and the failures of Venezuela and the SSR. Sorry, I came across to you as something other than what I am.

I just heard that the local elementary school will not be having a formal graduation this year. They decided it would hurt the feelings of the sixth graders who aren't graduating. Instead there will be a ceremony in the playground. Winners of awards will have their names shown in a Powerpoint display, rather than have them announced. Ridiculous? Yeah, just a little.

Amazing how the whole world has now jumped onto the I am afraid I will offend someone. They should worry about giving recognition to those that have earned it.
They are not trying to offend anyone in doing so. But reality is reality.

A former instructor at the local community college told us that he no longer asks students to stand up and read from the text since so many of them would break down in tears because they could barely read. This is what the government schools are producing, generations of a semi-literate proletariat which will mindlessly obey what they are programmed to believe.

This is done deliberately by the govt. How do you think the present incumbent got in ?

I guess they should eliminate sports as well so the winning team cannot "rub it in" that the other team lost.

This is as bad as not having the ability to pass the SAT's and based on the color of your skin you get admitted to College.
