I agree, that should only be used with small (size) lenses. I would have no use for such a gadget!

It's designed so you don't have to carry the body caps with you. The "empty hole" is meant to be covered by the lens cap of the active lens.

Wish I had known about this a few weeks ago, before I dropped and ruined a 24-70 f/2.8. The $170 "gimmick" may have saved me the $1,700 replacement cost of the broken lens.

Why not just carry two cameras with lens attached? Seems to me that is a much simpler solution and also the camera is ready to shoot in an instant rather than fussing with changing lenses and no concerns with getting crap in the sensor changing outside etc.
