A lovely bird.
We don't get very many of them over here.

No, but you have some wonderful birds that we do not. Would love to get some pictures of different Tits and Finches.

I grew up 10 miles from Rockport, Aransas Pass, haven't been in the area for 40 years.

Cedar Waxwings gather at Pyrocantha bushes in the early spring here in So California. These birds are very difficult for me to capture fine feather detail. The detail on their feathers is so tiny and fine. The good news is that, if you find a Pyrocantha bush this time of year, it is only a matter of time before the birds show up. Often they can be shot in open areas where clumps of the berries are. These were captured near Santee Lakes in the San Diego area.

Very nice. When I lived in Calif. I also had a Pyracantha bush where birds of various species fed on the berries. Some of them appeared to get drunk on the berries, staggering around on the deck below, etc. Anyone else observed that?

Thanks for posting - it brought back memories of a very special place I once lived (it was a vineyard).

I have heard of that but have never witnessed it. That's what pictures are for-to bring back memories of places once visited or at least, places I wish I could visit.

I've seen just what you describe...a flock of Cedar Waxwings descending on the berries of a Pyrocantha bush in West Los Angeles about 45 years ago...except the berries had started to turn alcoholic and the waxwings got truly loopy...flying in circles, flying upside down at times, flying into doors, walls and windows, truly drunk. I've never seen that since, but I'm sure it happens. Thanks for sharing this scenario with us. Nice pictures. You're right about their fine feathers...they are so smooth as to make it difficult to take images showing the feathers. jak

I've seen just what you describe...a flock of Ceda... (show quote)

They are beautiful. Tough for me to get good feather detail-they tend to look "plastic" in many of my pictures.

I like the sleek look of the bird in the photos.
