Cedar Waxwings at Pyrocantha berries

Cedar Waxwings gather at Pyrocantha bushes in the early spring here in So California. These birds are very difficult for me to capture fine feather detail. The detail on their feathers is so tiny and fine. The good news is that, if you find a Pyrocantha bush this time of year, it is only a matter of time before the birds show up. Often they can be shot in open areas where clumps of the berries are. These were captured near Santee Lakes in the San Diego area.

Love these guys. You have some nice downloads. Won't have berries here for another couple of months. Did you catch any couples doing the berry pass dance?

Nice set. I haven't seen any waxwings so far this year.

Great set with #2 being totally emblematic of the species, beautiful paint dipped tail, bright wax on the wings, great color, perfect pose....

Thanks for the thoughts. Have not seen that behavior. Although Waxwings are not uncommon in this area, I tend to see them high in the treetops unless it is berry season. Then they come down and cooperate for pictures.

Thanks. One of my favorite birds, but difficult to get good pictures (at least for me).

They are beautiful. Tough for me to get good feather detail-they tend to look "plastic" in many of my pictures.

Thank you. You always wish for the bird to pose-wish he would have turned his body just slightly more, but I am happy with the shot; as you mention it does show some of the unique characteristics that make this one of my favorite local birds.
