Grace deserves all the credit for her compelling pose, I was so fortunate to work with her, since she is in high demand in NYC and Chicago.
As for the luminosity of the red silk... It is a satin weave in which either the warp or the weft predominates on the surface. This is so different than all other weaves such a twill which evenly alternate thus are far more prone to scatter the light in all directions...
btw, the satin weave originated in the Far East as a method to make the most of silk's sheen. (I've worked with so many fashion designers that their knowledge has permeated my very soul...) lol
Also although polyester is used in many satin weave garments it lacks the sheen of silk.
Guess the easiest way for guys to understand silk satin's sheen is it has become ubiquitous in gentleman's neck ties... thus they can appear almost luminescent in directional lighting. Just as silk wedding gowns...
