Well posed and captured.
Kudos to who ever arranged the dress.
As a wedding photog, I struggled with this as no one else would jump in and help.

Thank you for your kind words Jay Pat... I hear you about managing a gown... this dress weighed 8 lbs and took close to an hour to "assemble" on Grace... Having a wardrobe stylist on the team is paramount for bridal... experience has been a brutal teacher...

Ok, when shooting the actual event I would always enlist a bridesmaid for gown management and another for touching up makeup... While there is only one maid of honor... the remaining bridesmaids are always excited to become part of the team...

Many thanks blue-ultra for your kind words... However the entire team deserves most of the credit here... Especially Grace who is a thespian of considerable merit, elegance and charismatic allure... She has an extensive editorial fashion repertoire, finely honed and precisely choreographed... although the entire team are accomplished artisans... I'm only one member no more or less important than each of the others... Editorial fashion is a team sport relying on aggregate synergy to combine in harmony...

I'm in jaw dropping awe! The detail in the dress, top to bottom, is just amazing. Incredible. The top and bottom of the gown seem to me to be of different textures and/or shades, but the detail shows through and through. Is that due to natural light fall-off or did you set up different separate lights? I only see one catch light in her eyes and some shadow under her chin. Was there only one overhead light? I don't have the ability to even conceptualize such a shot. Beautiful. Would you be so kind as to explain the lighting a bit?

scphoto thank you so much for such an epic review! Obviously I am glad to respond and hopefully address your query...

The Gloria Vanderbilt Bridal Gown is comprised of five completely different components... there is a flesh colored strapless corset top worn underneath the upper main dress... the main dress has golden decorative pearls and jeweled sequin combined with embellishment of embroidery and piping... very ornate textile artistry... additionally a separate bustle adds fullness to the lower portion which is hidden from view by an attached satin train which was formed into a circular pattern by having Grace rotate 280 degrees... yes varying layers of contrasting fabric... Trust me as a bridal makeup artist I've helped dozens of brides (and bridesmaids) into their gowns... some clip together, others have snaps or buttons albeit here there were cord loops which went over metal hooks attached to the upper dress since the satin train was so heavy.

As for illumination? actually the key was a 22" BD with sock however no grid... The key was considerable distance away from Grace (15 feet) so the cone of illumination was exactly from the upper red silk to the floor... there was an overhead hair light (32" silver parabolic) and two side kickers behind at 45 degrees...

What you don't see is the 4 foot wide floor to ceiling mirror behind me so the Grace could monitor her choreographed dance move... btw, our studio is flat black and the only illumination if from modeling lamps which track with power output on the strobes... the talent love this since they know precisely how the image will appear...

btw, since there was a complaint about Grace's face below please find a head shot taken for Grace's Zed Card. hope this helps Stephen... I wish you well on your journey... and thank you so much for your participation in the noble calling of animal rescue...

Thank You Thomas for sharing your light set-up and more about the 5 piece and beautiful, gown - and the mirror - in today's world of selfies - I can see how this would be loved by the talent as well as being very helpful in "seeing" the various effects.

Superb image. This is a case where the centered "bull's eye" composition along with the almost-perfect symmetry of the subject works perfectly. Maintaining detail in the red AND the white dress is not easy and very well done. Outstanding!
