You need to find stud link chain

Nice job

Is this the ancient mariner talking Graham? Stud link? I don’t see that, even when I visit Poole. It would take a trip to Southampton I reckon. A bit too far even for IKB and authenticity! I have this afternoon visited the local ferry though and I’m fairly pleased with its chains - particularly as the spare is laid-out folded to form three lines of close-wound links. I’m sure it will look better once Ps has done its job.
Many thanks for looking-in, and for your tip.

Not the ancient mariner, just someone who was curious about the correct name for the type of chain shown in the original picture. Good old Google

Well done. Both your image and the actors garb. Somewhere buried in my shots are one of ships anchor chains. You may have motivated me to find it and do something with it.

Where would we be without it, eh? If one Google’s ‘Brunel and chains’ there are several versions of this picture, including one where he’s sitting, so I guess he liked a bit of publicity. Now, I wonder whether, with that other modern aid, I could add those little bars - how long have we got?

Thanks Frank. Now, do they use stud-link chains along the Jersey Shore? Perhaps we’ll find out when you show us that picture!

Back in October last year I visited the Didcot GWR Broadgauge shed for an afternoon and evening photoshoot and was amazed at the lengths some of the re-enactors had gone to to create authentic characters to compliment the locos. This gent in particular impressed me with his attention to detail. But one thing bemused me - why were his trousers and shoes spattered with mud? The answer was simple - as the attached b&w borrowed from the www will explain. All I needed was some ships chain! Your thoughts on my image appreciated.

Very nice. A faithful recreation of the original photo with color and a bit more vitality. I love it.
