Chainmail, eh? Methinks you just might have a naughty streak...

Seriously though, I just shoo her away and work as quickly as possible. That and keep her well fed.

I was thinking about how some divers hand feed sharks...

I think that I thought that cichlids were vegetarian versions of piranha - - clearly I've gotten my wires crossed somewhere

Lacy feeds on raw fish, earthworms, bloodworms, vegetable wafers and whoever she can catch, especially newly-introduced tankmates. Her staple is a gourmet cichlid pellet. She's no fussy eater but she sure gets mad if I make the slightest change to her aquarium.

I'm afraid so. Salt baths and antibiotics didn't help so I assume it was age. :-(

Welll, I hope she exceeded her expected lifespan under your loving care. She was quite beautiful.

Your pictures of her on p. 1 seemed more like she was looking forward to seeing you - - but you said she would bite, so maybe she was just guarding her space. 😏 😁

Is there an average tank lifespan ??? Her coloring sure looked healthy.

With proper husbandry, a parrot cichlid can live 15 years. However, swim bladder infections are almost always fatal.

She observed me as much as I observed her. It's been demonstrated that a parrot cichlid can recognize his or her owner/feeder. She begged for food often.

Just today, I remembered a haiku that a friend recited to me at least 40 years ago. I thought maybe the poem, superimposed on a photo of Lacy, might be a nice portrait:

In a World where all is Water
Who can tell
When Fishes Weep

If you decide to do it, I'd enjoy seeing a snapshot of it...
