I buy all my kit third party usually from E-infinity and not had any problems ..lots of repairers here in UK who will fix it ...The D850 cost me £2089 and the rec price here is £3499. When you sell it no one asks if its third party so you gain again.

I found a good deal on a new Nikon on ebay. No warranty (it's an import) but it has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee and free returns. I'm sure lots of you have had experience with this, so advice would be valuable. The savings is significant, or I would not even consider it. The seller also offers their own warranty, but I haven't yet been informed of it's price. The seller has 5 star approval ratings.

The only difference is warranty coverage. That's it.

It really comes down to your choice. If it makes you feel better, check on the price for a one year warranty. If there is something wrong with the camera, it usually shows up fairly quickly.
My suggestion is always shoot the living you know what out of it the first week you have it. Use all the modes and shoot under a variety of ISO settings including auto ISO if possible.
You have a 30 day money back if you are not happy. I would also get a shutter count before you buy, it is important if he has put a lot of clicks on it.

Who is the seller? What model camera? Nikon will repair some gray market cameras, but there's still no warranty. I'd be concerned about a gray market seller offering a free 30-day return - and a warranty. When it comes time to sell the camera, will you tell potential buyers that it can't be repaired?

I know I am going to get beat up again and I agree it is a balancing act but if you do your research and you are very cautious with your purchase a grey market camera or lens could give you big savings. Almost 2 years ago I purchased a Nikon D5 from I think 42nd or 47th ST Camera and knew they would try to sell me the warrenty and other things I should get with the camera. I was ready to cancel when they called but they sent me the camera for $1500 less than B&H. I have the D700, D810 and even now the D850 and never have had to get one repaired. So there is a risk and I took it and am happy with the D5, works like a champ.

I have had both factory & grey market cameras and lens and have never had a problem with either and I have both Canon & Nikon Gear. If it's good enough to purchase in the U. K. , it's okay to ship to the USA for sale as well. The biggest pain was resetting the time zone differentials to ours.

Take your chances if you must and the $$$$ rules the day...Not the Hot Air that permeates such discussions. Even a factory refurbished model has only a 1 year limited warranty and if the price of repairs is too high , buy an new one and get over yourself.

Always buy the best you can and enjoy your life cause........ there's No Guarantee on that either. BOOM !

Bought what I thought was a used Nikon D500 from my local camera store in Orlando. Almost a year later sent it to Nikon to be cleaned and serviced. I had been traveling a lot that year and questioning auto ficus.

Nikon would not touch it. Had a UK Seriel Nimbet.

Tool it back to my camera shop and messed with it. They offered me a refund and for $300 more I could buy a USA version D500 which I did. They did not realize when I bought it it was grey Marley (is what they told me).

I think most people have good luck with their cameras. Most are upgrading to the newest model because of improved features, not because their existing one broke. We buy a camera with the assumption it will lose value over time and after a while will not be worth repairing. It is cheaper to buy the same model used, or buy a later model.

I purchase most of my lenses and cameras used, through sources such as ebay Amazon, B&H, KEH. I purchased my 500mm prime from a lens rental company. I have never had to repair any of my equipment.

The only camera I bought new was my $3200 Sony a99ii since I was ready (and able to pay for) for the latest model. I was able to purchase a 5yr Drop&Spill warranty as well. I am assuming that if the camera is not repairable I will get a comparable used unit in its place. I would not have done this for a $1500 camera.

I still don’t get it. It’s nikon made by Nikon but for a different region. Which seemingly nikon doesn’t care about? I mean is a nikon reject that’s why no warranty. Nikon knows they’re out there but they just didn’t put care into this version. Just curious. I have a REAL d750😳

Why is there so much grammatical ignorance these days? You may LOSE (looze) something that is carried LOOSE (luce). Impact is NOT a substitute for effect. They have different meanings and the ubiquitous misuse of the word impact to mean effect is only correct in the mind of the misuser. Consult an Unabridged dictionary. There, their, they're are words that should have been learned in grade school. I also observe that hardly anyone knows how to hold a pen or pencil correctly (between the thumb and forefinger, resting on the middle finger). My grand children cannot tell time on a dial clock (minute and hour hand pointing to numbers!) and they are enrolled in an expensive (!) private school. We are becoming a nation of expensively educated morons.

I bought my Canon 5D Mark IV, Canon 24-70 f/4 L IS and Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS from Deals-all-Year on ebay. They are easy to work with, ship fast and have not had any issues with them. You are buying the exact same product as from a registered dealer. If you trust the manufacturer (Nikon or Canon) is selling a quality product go for it.

If the camera you are looking for you can get it as a refurb or in good condition in the used market that will be your best bet to save money.
Just make sure the used camera is a genuine import. Refurbs usually are specially if sold by Nikon.

I can only share my experiences with you, having purchased 2 cameras in this manner. Both were through Amazon, however. I have no experience buying via ebay.

Both cameras came as advertised and were brand new. Both have worked, and continue to work, flawlessly. One is Canon and the other Nikon. Both were at a savings greater than 25%. One of the big warranty company's advises on their website that when it comes to cameras, less than 1.5% ever go back to the Mfg'er for that one year warranty repair provided with the purchase. So figure your odds??!

Just my experiences and I hope you find this helpful.
