The rest of us need to NOT feel guilty and say “no” when asked if the comfort pet can be involved.

Although some truly need them it’s also an area of a lot of scams.

Unfortunately you'll probably be hit with whatever is popular today to make you a bad person

Yup....seems like a lot of that going around. I do not (nor likely will never) understand the liberal mind.

Based on all the replies, it seems that the majority of us love animals. But it also seems that we agree the current trend to bring a pet everywhere a person goes who’s using the “comfort pet” excuse is just that, an excuse to bring Fido along, and to hell with the possible health, or other risk and discomfort it brings to others.

It’s a 1974 all original with factory A/C, 4 speed, and the 454 engine. It’s the last of the BB for a long time, and the first to have no chrome bumpers.

Incredible what’s going on today.

If I am in a public place, and I get bit from one of these dogs, the owner and the store will answer to my concerns about it in another public place.

The issues that OP has illustrated is exactly why Therapy Dogs + Handler must pass periodic evaluation exams. Our bichon is a therapy dog and my wife is the handler. She is also active in the evaluation organization. These controls are not a responce to government-anything.

I've had a few vettes. My last one was the 50th anniversary convertible, miss it.

If dogs are allowed on airplanes, they should be confined or muzzled. I had a dog when I was a child. My brother and I could do anything to this dog and it was fine. The dog did not like little children and would nip their hands when they approached. No blood -just enough to stay away.

I recently saw a news story of an emotionally stressed person who bought their comfort pet to the airport. As they were waiting to board the plane a little girl asked if she could pet the dog, the owner said yes that the dog was friendly. The little girl face was mauled, and she sustained serious injuries to her eye, and mouth.

Then there was another problemed person who actually tried to get of all things a peocock on a flight! Whether they succeeded or not is unknown.

Then finally at a local hospital in NJ, a women brought her comfort dog to visit someone. The dog was a nasty little bugger, a barker, and the owner allowed it to run loose in the room. The staff said there wasn’t much they could do!

One would think that there should be some restrictions on where these animals are allowed. Especially in a hospital, where keeping the place germ free is a priority. I understand thank some people need some support and help, but when someone is suffering from a emotional condition or claims to be and you bring a dangerous animal out in public posing a risk to others, they should either stay home or get a different pet.
I don’t want to sound like a heartless person, but as a society we are allowing a lot of nonsense that is creating more issues than fixing them. In my opinion the person in the hospital is a selfish and inconsiderate person. Not everyone especially sick people want to be around your precious fluffy.
Stay home!

Obviously a dog or even a cat can go crazy in an instant. Our mail person won't deliver mail some days. I seem to live in pit bull territory, but we harbored one for a couple of months that was as gentle as could be but was killed by another one. A block away while riding my bike a nasty one got my leg. Yes, he was known by animal control!
The other side to this story is sometimes people shouldn't be let out of yard without a leash either. Dogs bite, chew and spread germs, but people spread germs, diseases, but people shoot each other more often!
