The soft focus trees work well to direct the viewer's attention to the flowers. It seems to me that the fence is an eye snag attracting attention away from the subject (flowers) yet the fence is part of the story. Are your post processing skills up to removing part of the fence? Mine are not!

Thanks for your thoughts Photogeneralist. I am more inclined to leave the fence as i believe it adds interest and structure to the photo. Which part of the fence would you wish to remove? You are welcome to edit the image if you wish to give it a try.

IMO the 16:9 does not remove anything needed for the setting or mood, and does improve the composition by keeping our eye focused on the flowers rather than be led north via the verticals. I agree with Bev that darkening the single distinct tree trunk would be one more tweak of value.

The weathered, slightly tilting fence adds to the story of rural, just like the thick woods behind. Very enjoyable image!

Thank you for your detailed critique Linda. I may revisit the photo.

The second version looks much better. I do not believe more depth of field is going to hurt anything.

Hi, Bmac,
I like your posted image, but prefer the 6:19 crop.
Darkening the barkless tree trunk is a good thought. I also suggest lowering the tone on top fence boards...#2 and #4 from the left. Like the tree trunk, their relative brightness is a tad distracting.

Best regards,
Dave
