Some beaches on Oahu, Hi. in 1960

These were taken with a Kodak Ektra 35mm camera and copied yesterday. The beaches in ascending order are: Makapu, Hanauma Bay, Waimea, and Waikiki. This was one year after statehood and there were no crowds anywhere during the two years we lived there. A wonderful time in our lives, for sure.

Spent a summer on Oahu while still a territory the year it became a state. Got my driver's license at 15, signed by the Big Kahuna! I surely remember that big pink hotel along Waikiki, where I learned to surf.

1st time on a surf board in 1962 at Waikiki. What a time in my life. MarDet USS Los Angeles CA135. Never forget.

The three dominant structures from left to right on the Waikiki shot are The Royal Hawaiian, The Waikiki Surf Club, and the Moana Hotel.

Just to get things straight, I meant to say Outrigger Canoe Club, NOT Waikiki surf club. Funny how things get clouded in just 59 years.

Semper Fi, brother. This is most likely where you surfed: Canoes(also called Kiki) at Waikiki.

Nice pictures! They take me back. I was stationed there at NAS Barbers Point from 1959-1960. Statehood, volcano eruptions and a massive earthquake in Chile sent a tsunami that killed 50 in Hilo and 250 in Japan. I also have a picture of Waikiki jam packed with tourist during that time...for a special event. Lots of special memories. (I like your 1934 Ford)
