Perhaps it’s time to upgrade and purchase the 70-200 f2.8 or a wide lens.

Take both. Practice shooting panos and stitching. You will likely find that the 35 is really all you need, and the 18-200 is there for insurance when you need something a little longer.

That would be my choice as well.

Those 2 lenses will cover Yosemite and the whole USA in between. Good luck and have a wonderful journey!

I am sure the Nikon 18-200 VR will cover the majority of the subjects you will be photographing.

Hey Ruby, welcome!! It might be easier for us to help you if you list all of your current lens that you have to choose from?

The last time I went to Yosemite -- April of 2016 -- I brought several lenses with me. It turns out that I only needed one lens, for that trip. I never took the 18-135mm, f/3.5-5.6 lens off the camera. I even had an ultra wide with me (10-18mm), and never really needed it. The camera was a crop frame body.

I did bring a very sturdy tripod, and I got a lot of use out of that, on that trip.

I am planning a trip to Yosemite in the near future. Nothing wrong with what you have. I prefer my Tamron 16-300 mm . It's my walk around lens. I also have the Nikon 10-24 lens. Take a tripod. Extra batters and media cards.

If you like landscape images, then get a lens that is around the 10mm focal length. There are quite a few zooms in the 10-18 or 10-20 range that will do a nice landscape.

While many are recommending shooting panorama i am going to suggest the reverse. It is easy when surrounded by massive beauty to be sucked in to "trying to get it all". i would suggest finding something in the scene the speaks to you and concentrate on photographing that one thing. Panos will dwarf everything, but selecting one single thing will make it dominate. In a pano half dome will get lost, but what would an image of the mountain and its reflection do to recreate a mood? Also, use the light to your advantage. Be out in the golden hour. Shoot when the light is perfect on your subject. You will be much happier a year from now with your results. Go to 500px do a search for Yosemite and see what kind of shot they took. It might give you some ideas.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Skip the 35. I think you have it covered with the 18-200. That is a 10 x zoom and it covers 95% of the things you are likely to shoot.

I would also suggest a super-wide such as the Nikon 10-24mm. Yosemite has spatacular wide vistas and a super-wide will capture the grandeur for you.

I never go to Yosemite without my 24-70 2.8 ... and all other lenses are optional .,.14-24 2.8 and my 200-500 5.6 ... come along but are used sparingly .. Karno went for the first time a week ago ...he had a 35mm
Zeiss ....
That was awesome ..as was his pictures ...

I would take a lens that is wider than 18mm (27mm full-frame equivalent). You may find that 18mm is not wide enough to capture some of the vistas.

I know Yosemite very well. You will want something from 24mm’s to 200mm’s (full frame) equivalent.
