If I remember correctly, a replacement grip for the D810 door was ridiculously expensive vs the double sided tape.
Perhaps so. I don't think Nikon likes to encourage DIY repairs. My wish would be to find the proper double sided tape, even though putting it on from scratch is usually a real hassle. The Nikon material comes with the tape pre-installed on the grip material, which represents 90 or 95% of the work already done.

The rubber coating located by the Memory Card Door on my D-810 has become detached and needs to be reglued. Attached is a picture of the area.
I have tried gorilla glue and it has failed to adhere.
Does anyone know of the proper type of glue that would work?
Thank you for any advice you may have for me.

Use a contact cement type glue. You apply some to both surfaces and let it stand for a while then carefully stick it down. Be sure it is lined up because if you get a wrinkle or fold in it you may not be able to get it loose to straighten it out.
Before doing any glueing do lots of cleaning - but no liquids. Getting that clump of Gorilla off is a must. Gorilla makes a super glue that comes in a tube and has a small applicator. What I have done is take chunk of Al foil and put a little pool of the glue on it, then use a toothpick to spread the glue where wanted. You don’t need 100% coverage (to avoid any excess from spreading too much) just have a dozen little patches. If you can find model airplane glue so much the better. One of the things I do not like about the Gorillas is the way they swell. Before you commit your camera try to find some similar material and do some trying out.

Gorilla glue expands as it dries and doesn't adhere to surfaces like that. Use contact cement or shellac. I use shellac when repairing my fountain pens.

Clean the area and contact side of the rubber with alcohol. Get some J.B. Weld epoxy. Mix a small amount as directed. Apply the thinnest coat possible to just the rubber. Hold in place with masking tape. When it sets, you will never be able to remove it. J.B. Weld is the strongest stuff available--Period. If you make boo-boo, clean it up with goof off or similar.
A simple thing to try is to use rug tack cloth cut to fit your loose parts. Tricky to handle but will hold the part in place.
