Do not understand your fascination with black and white! I've really tried to get it, but it eludes me. The mailbox looks natural, but the brickwork just looks dead. If I try to show anything in a photo, I try to portray it in natural colors so the viewer can see what I saw, not what I might imagine. Sorry, but not for me!
Are you familiar with the photography of Ansel Adams? If so, ask yourself why some of his wonderful photos were taken in b&w well into the age of color film. Now I don't claim to be anywhere in his league, and I'm not trying to invoke b&w over color photos. Nor am I trying to get anyone to "get it". I have lots of what I consider beautiful color photos hanging in my house as well as b&w. It's all a matter of my preference as to what I think is important to me and me alone. And, whether color or b&w, I like to share my efforts, just like you. So, rather than dig into my brain trying to understand my preferences, perhaps a nicely put comment about the dead bricks, or a verbal pat on the back for my efforts.
Best wishes and enjoy the craft of photography.
