Well, you forgot a question mark. I will answer why anyway. First, and most importantly, I want one. I'm guessing your why is this answer. Second, I'm not as smart as you so I thought I should have one.

Just humor.
Really don't care one way or the other.

I don’t know about the Lumix, but inserting a hot shoe cover on my Canon SX50 disables the on-camera flash. A fellow UHHer stated that a switch in the shoe is tripped by anything inserted into it. I’m supposing that’s necessary so the camera will recognize an inserted flash. Just be aware and check the Lumix for that possibility.

FWIW, the Lumix GX85 does NOT disable the built in flash when you insert a hot shoe cover. This is the only Lumix body I have with built in flash.

I guess this camera doesn't come with a hot shoe cover so does anyone know a hot shoe cover that will fit on their fz 80?

The Multi Interface Shoe, (hot shoe), should be standard for all hot shoes today? Sony changed to this type of hot shoe in 2012. To align with the rest of camera manufacturers. I ordered a new one, for my Nikon DSLR, a year ago, for about $3.

Okay, I've got a lot of knowledge from this question and just now put one of the bubble hot shoe protectors in my Lumix FZ80. The FZ80 has the springs, but the protector did NOT deactivate the on board flash. Everything works. Thank you. Jim
