I guess this camera doesn't come with a hot shoe cover so does anyone know a hot shoe cover that will fit on their fz 80?

Presuming that it is a standard hot shoe, I bought a flock of these for all my Nikons.
I suspect all hot shoes are the same size but with different contacts, but I could be wrong.
Ebay has a lot of hot shoe covers for various cameras.
I would not rely on these covers being identical in size regardless of camera brand.

I would imagine you are correct, otherwise the flash footprint would be different (other than the contacts).

Other than the shoe center contacts, I would think they would be identical so plain flashes would fit all cameras.

Sony, for one, has used different size hot shoes. You use the Sony flash, or you buy an adapter.
I have not used a hot shoe cover on my camera and haven’t had a problem
I don’t know about the Lumix, but inserting a hot shoe cover on my Canon SX50 disables the on-camera flash. A fellow UHHer stated that a switch in the shoe is tripped by anything inserted into it. I’m supposing that’s necessary so the camera will recognize an inserted flash. Just be aware and check the Lumix for that possibility.

Well, you forgot a question mark. I will answer why anyway. First, and most importantly, I want one. I'm guessing your why is this answer. Second, I'm not as smart as you so I thought I should have one.

I bought a Nikon cover for my Olympus and it worked fine.

I'm the one who pointed out the mechanical switch that disables the built-in flash when ANYTHING, is inserted in the hot shoe, plastic, metal, whatever.
Look under the side rails of the hot shoe. Both sides typically have a long flat spring. On all my Canons, you can see a little bump on the bottom under the spring on one side. That's the switch. Just look.
