Nikon P1000 can't open raw files

We've rented a P1000 and are unable to open the raw files. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we need to have? We currently have Photoshop Elements 2018 and it opens files for D7500 and all of our other cameras but not the P1000.

Thanks!

Download this free dng converter:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/adobe-dng-converter.html

You can then open the dng files in Elements. Hang onto the raw as PSE 2018 should update to include that camera's raw files before too long (I'm surprised it hasn't already; make sure you have the latest update to ACR).

I don't know but, the first thing I'd do is check for PE updates. Can PE work with .dng files? If so, convert the raw to dng

Check for updates to your Elements 2018 app.

Elements 2018 is quite new so I believe if you update the ACR it should open the NEF files. Unless Adobe hasn't updated their ACR to handle the P1000 NEF yet. In that case would rather use Nikon software to open the NEF files rather than convert it to DNG.

The Adobe web site lists the P1000 as a supported camera in ACR. I suspect the OP just need to update his PE copy

The Nikon program does it and you can export DNG. Capture NX-D.
Of course, FRV, RawDigger, Preview (Mac) all do it.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. Photoshop Elements shows there are no updates but the version of ACR (10.30.933) isn't the latest that's listed on the website. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to update that, maybe because it's a plug-in?

I've downloaded and installed the Nikon program Capture NX-D and it installed with no problem but unfortunately I'm not able to open it. If anyone has it, I'm open to suggestions on what that problem might be.

Thanks!

Are you getting a specific error message with NX-D? Today appears to not be a good day for your computer

I can't remember and couldn't find online, but I think the regular update section of Elements' workspace would include ACR. It's under "help" at top of workspace page, not the raw editing section. If you have it set to auto-update, maybe a virus program is blocking?

You're right, it kind of feels like Friday the 13th but isn't! No error message with NX-D, it just doesn't do anything when I click on the icon. Tried rebooting the computer to see if that helped but it didn't. I checked help in elements for the update and it shows no updates available.

When the rental company bought the camera, they probably received a disk that would let them process the raw files. There are alternatives, of course.

Try downloading the Nikon program ViewNX-i and see if that works. It's free at their website and has some neat features such as showing you where your focus points are in the shot.

I don’t see the P1000 .NRW raw files as supported on Adobe’s ACR latest supported cameras site: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

The A1000 .NRW support has just been added to ACR 11.2, but PSE 2018 only supports ACR 10.0 anyway: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html

It appears that your resource is to download the Nikon raw converter SW. it was suggested in a previous thread on the same subject that Fastone Viewer might support the P1000’s .NRW format, but that was not verified. Adobe is usually a few months behind the manufacturer in adding raw support for new models in ACR, so there may be an eventual answer, but while PS and LR support the latest versions of ACR, you may need a new version of PSE to support the next rev of ACR (11.3?)

Looks as if this issue has been raised before: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-553447-1.html

That Adobe site shows the P1000 NEF files supported with version 11.1

Page 135 and 233 of the Nikon P1000 manual ( http://download.nikonimglib.com/archive3/p1044003Mxlb03LfolT87ntpHC83/P1000RM_(En)05.pdf ) both specify that the raw format is .NRW. Am I missing something here?

(BTW, ACR 11.1 doesn’t appear to be supported by PSE 2018)
