About 12 miles from Escalante south down Hole-in- the- Rock Road is a small park called Devil's Garden, it has Metate Arch and a few other arches plus a lot of neat formations. It is free and only 1/4 mile off the main road. Further down the road is Dance Hall rock and clear at the end, requires 4x4 last few miles, is Hole-in-the-Rock where Pioneers took wagons down the Hole and crossed the Colorado on the way to Bluff Blanding area.
They are huge arches down in the Escalante river canyon but require some long hikes. Highway 12 east toward Bolder from Escalante is spectacular. Enjoy!

If you hike at all, and Escalante shows best to those who hike. "Canyoneering 3 The Escalante Region" by Steve Allen is BY FAR the best guide book.

April is a great time for Zion. So much variety!! Bryce is pretty cool and many formations but color wise I found it boring after a couple of hours. Zion has a multitude of incredible colors every turn of the head. A full moon in Zion is beyond description when all those oranges, yellows, reds, rust, gold, brown, white colors leap out. Zion has short easy hikes and hikes that will test your courage, Angel's Landing. Love Zion.

Kodachrome Basin state park is just a short distance from Bryce. Several good locations in that state park.

Just a quick question. How does someone buy up the permits for the Wave, its all done on a random drawing. They give a few walk in permits also on a random drawing for those that are there, even for the walk in permits there are enough people to make drawing out rather slim. I have been putting in for the wave every year for about 9 years and have not drawn out.

If you go online, it’s quite simple to figure out. If you dont get a permit via lottery, you show up at blm office in kanab in the morning, and takes your chances. There is another location, coyote buttes north i think which is easir to get a permit. Also antelope canyon in page. You can get a permit for photograhping at lower canyon.

I will be traveling to Escalante and Bryce Canyon in early April. I was wondering if I could get suggestions for photography locations.

Never ending question. Utah had ops around every corner. Just south of Bryce on 89 is an area called red canyon. You can get several hundred in Bruce.. hiking down to the bottom of the hoodoos is recommended. You will be so close to Zion, you must go. From Bryce, South on 89, take 9 into Zion... Lots of photo ops there, but the main one is the narrows. You will have to wake up the creek (so get some wading shoes before going in). Well worth the hike.

On the way to 15 is a town called St. George.. Beautiful town. Just east of Vegas is red Rock canyon national Park....

Just south of escalante is page az. Slot canyons are there and the start of the grand canyon just below lake Powell dam. And a couple miles from there is horseshoe bend. Lots to see and do around page.

Utah and Arizona are two of the best photography states Imho.

Just throw a dart and you will get lucky......

I have been doing some research through tourist books, hiking books, and YouTube videos. I want to be prepared so I don't waste my limited time wondering around not knowing where to go. I can hike 5 - 10 miles, but other members of my group can probably only go 2-3 miles from the car. We have 2 nights in Escalante, a night in Bryce, and four nights at Zion. Thank so much to all who responded!

You need another 7 minimum. Your booked already... You won't have the time to do anything else but turn outs.

Ask cani he is a regular on here and an expert on Utah and surrounding area. I believe he is or was working for the National parks.
