Not sure if you have Mojave installed. But this maybe why your Aperture is not working or not working well. I know the App is not supported, but I can still use it on my Mac. ( I don’t have Mojave installed).

I think the partial article below is from the Apple Support page. I had it for awhile and can’t remember where I got it from for sure. There is a complete list of apps that will no longer work with Mojave.
................................
Which Apple apps won’t work in Mojave?
It’s not only third-party developers who’s apps are still stuck in 32-bit though. Even Apple has a collection of older apps that will be compromised - so if you are still using them it might be time to update to a newer version, or to switch to something else.

Aperture
Aperture 3, released in 2010, was the first 64-bit version of Aperture, and the last version of Aperture.

If you have an older version of Apple’s pro photo solution that it discontinued back in 2014, it may not run in Mojave. If you have Aperture 3, it may run, but don’t expect it to be issue free, especially since Apple no longer supports the photography application.

Good lock finding a new program...there several good Apps list in othe posts.

I agree that Sierra Photos is very good -each new application they offer is pretty good for editing and general work.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 19 for $69 will do all you want. I belong to a photography club with professionals and I see where Elements has more features and easier to use the Lightroom. An added benefit is no subscription and updates can be downloaded. Elements also has features for desktop publishing or graphic arts (limited).

I've been using Mac Aperture (Version 3.6) for years and really liked it. However, recently I started having issues with my iMac freezing when loading RAW files from my D500 or working with images once downloaded. I have 16G RAM and it has never been an issue in the past. Having said that, I just discovered that Mac no longer supports Aperture. So, I'm looking for recommendations on a new photo-management program preferably one that is as robust as Aperture and that I can easily move my libraries into. I've looked at Lightroom and see many plus and minus reviews which is why I am reaching out to the group.

Thanks for all your help.

Go back to High Sierra - Aperture still works perfectly with all my cameras - Sony, Olympus, Nikon, Panasonic ! Haven't a Canon but tried my daughters a year ago without problems. Mojave, from what I can see, gives no benefits over other OS's just stuffs up older software. I still have Office 2008 which is another app which dies in Mojave. Works fine in High Sierra though. Also I still use iPhoto as a display app - showing visitors and family slide shows or single photos on my iMac. iPhoto probably not as good as Photos for this but it uses the Aperture library which Photos will not (without "converting" it after which it won't open in Aperture anymore) Unfortunately for users, Apple and Adobe and other software companies have to continue selling their software to stay in business and the only way they can sell stuff is by upgrading! "If it ain't broke don't fix it" does not seem to apply here at all.

Apple “Photos” in Mojave is very good and much improved over earlier “Photos”versions and of course is free.

I use DXO PhotoLab available very reasonably from the AppleStore as an extension for Mojave “Photos”. Start off in DXO then “save”, then it automatically opens in “Photos” where you finish off. DXO provides automatic lens correction for your camera / lens combination, white balance choice, noise reduction, haze removal, and more. Very easy to use. (Works in RAW or Jpeg)

Luminar is another (Apple Store) program I also use as another extension for “Photos” but without automatic lens correction, but with some other features.

Your library of images in “Photos” shows up with various options such as years or favourites etc. etc.

You can also easily migrate all of this to an external hard drive (or more than one EXHD) to save space on your computer hard drive. Simply drag the “Photos “ application (or any other application) into the EXHD using the “Finder”. Then when opening “Photos” (or other app) again hold the option key then select which “Photos” you want to use. You could also do this with Photoshop Elements if you want to use that. All very easy and using an EXHD keeps your computer running fast and uncluttered.

I do all this using my 1 year old 27” iMac “Mojave“ as well as my 2010 MacBook Pro. My MB can only go to ElCapitan and all this works but not quite as well as in “Mojave”.

Apple is on a relentless quest to eliminate 32-bit software from the Mac ecosystem. Mojave is clean. It will tell you your software needs an update if it is 32-bit, the first time you open it after upgrading the OS.

The NEXT version of MacOS will not run ANY 32-bit code. So if you have to keep using old, insecure software because "it ain't broke," don't upgrade. OR, have multiple startup drives, like I do!

I have High Sierra running on a Mid-2010 Mac Mini, because that is the last OS that runs on that machine. It will probably be supported with security updates for one more year. Thereafter, I won't use it for anything risky on the Internet (The Mini is now a media server in my living room).

I do have several old drives that run on the Mini using Mac OS X 10.6.8, 10.10.x, and 10.12.x. They will also run on my iMac, which is currently running Mojave.

I even have a 1999 PowerMac G4 that still runs Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.11! We haven't started it in over two years, but we keep it just because we have old PageMaker, Freehand, Dreamweaver, Omnis 7, FileMaker Pro 5.5, and other old files that run on those systems.

Unfortunately if you use newer cameras and shoot RAW images to obtain much better results than jpeg, you need to update your OS and software. I haven’t found that Mojave “stuffs up older software”. I still have very old Photoshop Elements 9 & 11 that work fine in Mojave as well as old scanning software etc. that still works as it always did. However because I use relatively new Canon DSLRs and shoot RAW; PSE 11 just looks at me blankly if I try to use it for example to edit 5D4 RAW images. It’s fine for jpeg. But that is not a fault of the software, or the newer OS. It’s just that the old “stuff” has been left behind by new cameras. It’s sometimes called “progress”.
You are entitled to opt out of “progress” anytime you want.
Your old 1990 Ford will still get you from A to B but eventually mechanics won’t know how to fix it.

So I used to use Aperture also but stopped using it as soon as I heard Apple was no longer going to support it. I pretty sure your days of Aperture are coming quickly to an end so I highly suggest you start exporting your images out of the Aperture library ASAP. Aperture uses a propitiatory file system and trying to export them after it quits altogether will be a hassle.
A quick option if your OS is up to date is to use the new Apple photo's application to import and convert out of the Aperture libraries. I have salvaged all my Aperture libraries in this way - good luck.

Thanks very much. I did upgrade to Mojave and Aperture seemed to work ok for a while and then suddenly began giving me trouble. I'm sure it's time to move on to something else.

Best regards.

Thanks for the info. Your idea about going back to High Sierra is a good one as did not experience this issue while using that OS.

Thanks! Really appreciate your feedback. I am one of those "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of people so this issue is disheartening but with all the feedback I've received I'm sure it will work out.

Best regards.
