I don’t believe I’ll have a need to alter what the 80mm will give me “right out of the box”. In my other cameras’ list of lenses I have a 35mm Macro and a 100mm Macro, and they are absolutely GRAND. I just wanted a macro of some sort for the FUJI camera. The reason I enquired about the extender for the 80 was,...I already have the 2-X extender(I bought it when I got the 100-400mm lens) And I was curious if it could be used with the 80. When I got it originally, I was told that its’ use was only possible on the 140 and the 100-400mm lenses. Recently someone said it could be used on the 80....I wouldn’t anyway. Thanks for your response.....RJM

Actually, the Fuji Global site lists the 80mm Macro as a compatible lens...…

the back of the main lens would hit it, so
i would say no, you cannot use the TC (1.4
or 2x) on the 80MM macro. Not that I could
see why one would want to, either.

I use 1.4X and 2.0X TCs on 105 and 200mm
macros, when needed. I also use tubes when
needed and sometimes I use both. If you can't
see why one would ever want to do this, then
you've just saved yourself the expense of TCs,
Tubes, and a mega-mega tripod. It can all add
up to a 2X or 3X macro ratio at a distance of
about 3 feet: Needs Humongous Support !

This is not the maximum but you get the idea.
Sometimes perspective and alignment of the
subject elements just demands working from
a distance to get everything to fall into place.

Yes! You may find the smaller TC a better fit since like all 2X extenders, they tend to soften the IQ a bit. Cheers!

That's fine - most of the shots on my website (in signature below) were taken with the 200MM Micro Nikkor and the lighting rig I set up using a Ray Flash and RRS components.

And I have both the Fuji 1.4 and 2X TCs now (well, two of the 1.4s actually as one came with the 200MM f2 telephoto). But there is an extension of the TC that effectively inserts into the rear of the lens on which you mount it - and the 80 Fuji (which I also own) looks like the rearmost element is not recessed enough to allow the tC to be installed without doing damage to the rear element which is what I was stating eralier.

As for their website indicating it will work - I cannot comment. I did call FUji to ask if the 2X TC would work on the 200 f2 - and they said they weren't sure as nobody had asked the question before! But they pulled them off the shelf and tried it out and said yes - after which I have used that combo without incident. But perhaps calling them to ask (and let them play with their own inventory) would be the way to go.

I've heard that Fuji customer service is very good
and you've proved it once, so I guess you need to
prove it again ! Call Fuji and let them risk their own
stuff. FWIW, I've sometimes hadda check clearance
for Nikons "tele & macro" TCs with their protruding
front sections. I use 3 or 4 layers of lens tissue to
protect the glass [you can tuck it into the recessed
rear of a lens or tape it on around the "nose" of the
TC] and then I gently put the whole thing together
.... OR NOT, as the test allows. Do beware of rear
elements that travel and acoarst make sure they're
at the rearmost position for testing.

As you know, one can almost stuff a phone pole in
the rear recess of 200/4 MicroNikkor, but I do use
TCs in other situations where I've run that "tissue
padded" test over the years. I actually don't know
of a more direct and reliable method. Just be slow
and cautious and don't force anything.

Check Fuji’s website. Don’t guess! Supposedly using the Fuji teleconveter with a non compatable lens can damage the rear element.
