I recently bid on and won a sigma 50-500mm lens. Well when all was said and done the person "kangiwa" shipped an inferior sigma 150-500 lens. The lens has either scratched interior glass or junk in it that shows up on the photo's. I let them know they shipped the wrong lens and that I would return this and wanted the one I paid for. They have refused to send that one. "Bait and switch". After checking out the prices it seems the one that I bought sells for much more but mine was won on a bid. I think "kangiwa" just did the bait and switch because they didn't get what they wanted for the lens. I got it for $350 when others are asking for anywhere between $700-$1600. Has anyone had a similar experience? They should be required to send the one I bought since after the bid it is legally mine right? Any hints on what to do to get my lens? I've already contacted ebay and all they say is return it for a refund but I want my lens.

I found this searching for your seller:

"kangiwa
83 followers kangiwa(15941) 100.0%

Based in United States, kangiwa has been an eBay member since Jul 15, 1999"

Based on this feedback and my experience with sellers with similar feedback, you should find them easy to work with.

My advice is to stay away from eBay altogether. I quit buying and selling on that site. You can only pay or get paid using Paypal, which I will never use again. I was hacked after using PayPal. I had to cancel a credit card and change my checking account. Never again. My bank manager told me that I was the third person that month that had bank accounts hacked after using PayPal.

If they pulled this crap, you do not want any lens from them. Contact eBay, the will handle it.

If something sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Things may go cheaper on an auction, but if it is quality, they usually don't go much cheaper.

Before doing any of that, and being this seller hasva flawless record from what I see, see if he corrects the problem first. Sometimes you can tell more from the way they correct the problem then just the initial situation.

I concur with the other members. You should be happy just to get out of the deal breaking even. I refer you to the expression: "Anything that seems too good to be true probably is." In a personal opinion, buying auction items on ebay can result in enthusiasm-driven over-payment. I only consider the "Buy it now" items, for which you have a guaranteed price and can judge the corresponding value.

I had a similar situation with ebay. I won a laptop, but it was never shipped. I got my money back, but it was spread out in payments over a period of months.

Exactly how I go too! Buy it Now with Best Offers available from only reputable sellers and you should be good. Be sure there's plenty of photos also. Watch out for sellers using stock photos only

Ebay is fantastic for finding deals. Its just as good at solving buyers "problems". Youll get your money back.

With all due respect, did you really think you could purchase a $700-$1600 valued lens for $350? Quality lenses, in my opinion, are not obtainable for bargain prices.
Take the refund.

I had a slightly similar experience, just the other day.
Looking for a Fuji 100-400mm lens. Usually sells for $1399 on B&H, Adorama etc. This one had a small ding but was perfectly acceptable.
I won the auction for $1136. A good price. Seller emailed me and said would ship immediately after payment. However when I went to pay, Found that seller cancelled the purchase by saying that I had cancelled (Not true). Phoned Ebay who said that there is no way they can compel a seller to complete the agreement. Pity because I really wanted this lens. However did manage to leave negative feedback for the seller. I guess he had sellers remorse at the low price.
No real harm done just a disappointment. I have had many experiences on E bay. All positive til now.

Why didn't you simply inform the buyer to release the catch that locks the aperture ring?
Also, why didn't you inform Ebay of the buyers "operator error"?

I've been using Ebay for 18 years as a buyer and seller. Occasionally I've purchased goods
that have problems... My first step is to contact the seller with details (and photos/videos if appropriate) of the problems and always had results that range from satisfactory to positively generous.

The worst seller I have dealt with, reneged on a sale. She auctioned an item without a reserve, I was the only bidder and won with a $1 bid. When I contacted her to arrange payment and pick up she simply said;
"I'm not selling it for a dollar and you can't have it". I contacted Ebay and told them what had gone down,
then left her negative feedback, with this message: "This seller reneged on the sale. Do not trust this seller."

I don't know if Ebay stopped her leaving me negative feedback or not, but my 100% rating was not affected.

My exact experience.

Give a negative feedback, it is the only way you can get any satisfaction, as well as getting a refund.
As previously quoted move on.
I have been an EBayer for quite a few years and only got one bad feedback, from a first time buyer, who did not read the description, I even offered to refund his money without him sending the $20 item back, took me two years to get my 100% classification back.

Read the feedback scrupulously, quite often they are for low dollar items they have bought from friends and or relatives, who give them glowing references.
I have never lost money due to bad purchases or misdelivered items, I have always been dealt with fairly by Paypal and eBay.

eBay has buyer protection. You should contact them and complain.

Ditto on that Mark! I thought of that immediately. One might think they got "lucky" with other bidders asleep at the wheel but that never happens. What I don't understand about this particular seller is he has a stellar feedback record with thousands, I believe, transactions.

Steve,

Thanks for the response. Yes, it is a bit strange. I've purchased and sold on Ebay. I never had an issue, but some apparently do.
