Thanks Eye, I hope I did not misconvey what I really meant as I know myself that a lot of what I like no one else likes; but that is just personal opinion and I was only stressing in the final analysis Please Yourself. BTW, there is a LOT of very useful info in this thread and things that made me rethink a little. Thanks for starting the exercise.

ArtBob,

I am so glad you enjoy it. I love the doing and the sharing. It has, at times, saved my sanity when life is stressful I can lose myself in it. I am the girl that can sit and look at a strangers family photo albums. I have antique family pictures hanging on my wall of people I do not know, to me they represent ancestors that I did not know. NEVER stop learning, my only issue is there are not enough hours in the day to read all the books I want to read, photograph all the things I want to, etc. If I did not need to sleep and eat etc I would be happier doing those other things more.

MrBob,

Thanks for clarifying. I have shot some really weird, out there stuff. I used to play a lot with an editing program that is no longer available that mirrored the image and did multiples etc, went down a really abstract path. I like it all. Just let me play and I am happy, it does not always please others though. I may lose all respect sharing that last montage of crazy. Experimenting in the beginning, having never edited pics before or knowing how I was limited to programs that were filter type editing. I miss this program, it was a lot of fun to play with.

Wow what wonderful responses in this forum It is like a good seminar.

Having gone to the School of visual Arts in NY. And been a working Art Director
for many years in advertising for years. I have a few ideas.
Do the efx you applied to your good photos make them better. The base
photos are very good?

Education on composition is always a revelation but I like instinct. Many times I don't
know what I am going to do before I do it. Shooting video recently finding an interesting
frame and composition that is sufficient for the needs like a record of the place an event
is happening. And creating a dynamic that entices the viewers interest.

A short story about SVA in NY. Had a teacher who taught design. His first project for us was to
cut out a small black square out of paper and spend the whole week to next class putting that square
concentrating on where we would put the square on a letter size white sheet of paper.

So--some put the square very close to the edge. Some tilted it which I never thought of. It was a square.

I put my square folded half on top showing the other half on the back.
Other students said "You can't do that" and the instructor said I didn't say you couldn't.

I thought I had won the attention of everyone. And the the last page was posted up for the class
to see and it was an empty white page. This gentlemen's square was on the back.
I have never forgot that experience in my whole career.

Yes, I have enjoyed all the responses also. And I love your post! Thanks for jumping in and sharing your story. I enjoy exercises like that to challenge creativity, expand idea range and thought process. I have no formal training and do not know what I am talking about but I love it and want to learn more of it! I will have to revisit this again later as I am just running out the door...

Tom Daniels,

"Having gone to the School of visual Arts in NY. And been a working Art Director

Wow, you are a very lucky man on both counts. I love art and can only imagine this experience...I think a trip to NY alone would put me over the moon let alone attending art school and working as an Art Director.

"Do the efx you applied to your good photos make them better. The base

I am a little confused about what you are asking here. Are you referring to the original pics that started the post or those recently added? The collage just a few posts up were all taken with a point and shoot before I had a DSLR camera and I have added many years experience so I wouldnt sat those are anything special. It was just me experimenting. I could create something with better quality now. The photos at the very beginning of this post are more to my current standards but I did not really apply efx to those beyond some basic editing and adjustments etc and in that case I always try to improve the image.

The very last set with all the weird mirrored variations were done in a photo editing program I had years ago but I no longer have it. I am sure this is still possible to do with some newer software but I havent tried anything like that in years. I can see its potential for abstracts and such, not so much for portraits unless you want alien portraits. I do have a setting on my camera that allows me to do double exposures and I have also experimented with that...attaching one

Very interesting. Your inquisitive nature and like of creative interpretation is who you are. Enjoy it.

One cant help but enjoy doing the things they love, we can only hope to produce something along the way that is worth sharing because it adds to the experience when we can share our joy with others.
