An addition to PGphoto's recommendation of iOS "Notes" app for copying documents to PDF. Notes will also adjust for out-of-square-ness due to exposures not taken perpendicular to the surface.

A scanning feature is built right into the iPhone if you have at least iOS 12. Go to the Notes app when opened at the bottom of the screen you will see a plus sign which when pressed gives you a number of options. It scans directly to a high quality PDF when you choose scan documents.

Question? Have you used the PDF scanner that came with your iPhone? Many are not aware it. Go to the Notes Section, and once you open to create a note, (I always create a title first) look at the bottom icons and select the + symbol, and the first option is to “Scan a document”. Here I have scanned various documents, including bound pages. After which I export by email to a filing system I developed and store in a WD external drive to share as needed.
I do insurance damage inspections where my files consist of jpegs, and PDF files. Aside from my a6000, I use my iPhones and pads exclusively for my inspections, and email to my work pc laptop.

Will "cute pdf" work with an IPhone?

No, Cute PDF Writer is a free Windows program. I used it in some FileMaker Pro solutions I wrote a long time ago. It requires the free GPL Ghostscript to run properly. I thought it was really superb, and not just for the price!

It runs on any version of Windows since Win98.

You're talking about the Notes App, right? In iOS 12.1.4 (the very latest), there is no such + option.

After creating a note, I have only three options at the bottom of the screen — Trash Can icon, Share icon, and New Note icon. If I'm missing something, please enlighten us with screen shots or a more detailed step by step.

EDIT: Never mind. I use my AOL account for my Notes, and the options are not available unless using Apple's iCloud for Notes. When I switched to my Apple iCloud Notes, they worked perfectly.

I need to convert all my Notes to iCloud and get them off of AOL, which limits my Notes power and flexibility. (I've used Notes on AOL since dirt...)

I use the Adobe Scan app on my iPhone and iPad. Works great and it’s free. It also links to the Adobe cloud so you can view on desktop/laptop with free Adobe Acrobat reader.

If you're used to using Notes on your Mac, you may not like what you see when you open it up on your iPhone. The iOS version of Notes does not nest folders, instead it shows a stream of every folder and subfolder open to the individual notes they contain. On your Mac you can scroll down the list of closed folders to quickly locate the one that contains the note you seek. On the phone you will need to scroll down the entire contents of your collection. You can still launch a search, but I wish they would make the Notes directory window behave more like browser bookmarks.

I was not aware of the PDF scanning feature in Notes, and it's still there in v1214. So, many thanks for bringing that to my attention. Numerous good options have been suggested and I'm trying them all to see what works for me. Tough choices! The help from all of you has been very much appreciated.
