Two gas station stories:
Many years ago my then-wife bought a Vega wagon, '72 or '73. The gas filler was behind the license plate holder, mounted in the bumper. We pulled into a station and the young dolt who started to fill the tank squatted down, lit cig in mouth, to fill us up. Asked to ditch the weed, he sort of sneered and flipped it away. Fortunately it was a cold evening, so the risk of a fire was perhaps small.
The other. A friend way back in the day was working at a service station when the gas delivery tanker arrived and began to fill the tanks. Hot day. Bob could see the fumes building up. He started to walk briskly away. Just then someone in the service bay lit an oxy-acetylene torch.... Big fire! Bob said his burns did cure his adolescent acne.... He didn't say what happened to the station, other employees, much of the block....
