Some people would say there are 1 types of people... I'm glad you started counting at 1 because 0 is nothing. So if you wanted to count 0 as something it would be the first one or number 1.

Been using computers for so long, zero is a valid value. Null is no data, usually in database fields, ie. no entry.

When I started using computers one was the beginning index value. It changed to zero probably in the late '70s or early '80s.

That explains why for me, I started in 1972. Counters were like 1 to X.
Funny that "1 to 7" did something seven times.
I've always looked at zero as the starting point, and go from there.

The 10 in binary is 2 in decimal numbers (base 10)... So the statement actually says 'There are two types of people, those that know binary and those that don't.'

Oh, DirtFarmer and I got it, but I'll bet there were those who didn't.

The statement goes back nearly 50 years ago that I'm aware of... maybe longer. Used to be a 'tagline' for the end of messages when Fidonet was up and running.

With "free" you get what you pay for! At least they gave adequate warning.
