I have had excellent results using Autostitch. However, I also run Lightroom and have used its panorama stitching, too. Here is an example of an Autostitch panorama:

Autostitch is very easy to use, and supports multi-row stitching (but all photos must have been taken from the same point).

I'll check it out, My panos are always from the same point, shot verticaly usually 7 - 8 shots and finished at 2000 x 1300

Too bad you're not a member of our local camera club. I'm giving an introductory course in Affinity Photo at our Feb. 12th meeting.

If you have any familiarity with postprocessing software, i.e.: Photoshop or Lightroom, coming up to speed on Affinity Photo is relatively easy.

Serif also publishes a book, the Affinity Photo Workbook, which is excellent! Interestingly the book is the same price as the software. There are also a fair number of online video tutorials available BUT I much prefer a book which can I peruse at my own speed and not be driven by video speed.

Good luck!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the panorama feature in Affinity Photo (AP). I've used it extensively for panoramas and mosaics since acquiring AP and it has never failed me yet. I also have AutoPano Giga, which is excellent, but it costs more than AP and only does panos/mosaics.

An example of an eight(8) image 'mosaic' is shown below. The sunset in this image was Photoshop'd from a previous image into this one also using AP.

I've also included the original eight image mosaic.

Enjoy!

Expose on manual as the sky changes as you swing around. Don't use a CPL. Do ensure that the tripod is level (not the camera) and leave a good overlap. I use BATCH process so that all edits I do apply to all the prints I'm going to use. Then stitch. In between each Panoramic sweep take a wasted shot or a signpost or something so you know beginning and end of each set.

When you're hiking into remote spots for photography I find a tripod is just extra weight and a tripod is really not required for panoramas or mosaics. Most pano/mosaic software will handle handheld subs just fine.

Yep, all my panoramae were made hand-held. (I do sometimes do a little straightening before merging, though--my pictures often have a slight tilt.)

Once I started using Autostitch for photos I had intended to be part of a panorama, I went back through my travel pictures and discovered a lot of occurrences of photos in sequence taken at the same spot that were suitable for merging, too. You may want to do the same thing after you get started.

I like the 'panoramae' . I've always used 'panoramas' as the plural.

I am of the same opinion; while nice, the tripod is sometimes weight I don't need.

One reason I like to do pano in LR is you end up with a dng file after stitching, which is a form of raw, so one is able to edit more robustly on the pano than if it were a tif. Not sure if any of the other programs mentioned in this thread create dng files after stictching, but I think it's a big plus.

PSE creates a PSD file.
