Hi Jules. Wonderful. I agree with Sensor that the last of the set you posted (#5) is the best. That is one fantastic image!!!!

The new lens, even though just a new version of the old, really seems to suit you and your work. Now you have me curious how “old” my 70-200 f2.8 VR2 really is. I bought it used from a UHHr when I started (in fact, I knew that I needed that lens for my sports work so much, I bought the lens 4 months before I even owned my 7200!). Do you know if there is a way, maybe by serial number, to tell tof what “generation” a lens belongs?

Keep shooting. No sports for me this winter (we are skiiing, and I can only fit an iPhone in my coat pocket). Spring T&F starts in about 4 weeks

David

Hello David:
I believe this lens came out in 2009. I read all the reviews and decided an upgrade was needed for my work. I like this lens. Sharp and quick focusing in low light. I was shooting at night (flag football) and it locked on a player pretty damn good. You may try looking up your lens through the serial number and find out exactly when it came out.
Take a breather for a while huh. I will continue to shoot basketball, the playoffs and the finals. Then off to softball, baseball and track.
Be Well,
Jules

If it is the G version VRII, yup. Son of a gun - if I am reading the serial number and model number correctly, that is what I have.

I was very happy the way the new lens performed last night at a flag football game. (Senior Night)
Here are some. Comments and suggestions always welcome. Later in the game iso 8000, started around iso 4000 then went up from there. 1/640-1/800 at 2.8 Auto white balance. Did not remove noise, why? I don't want to soften the images.

WOW! These are great, you are the Man! Glad you are happy with the new lens I really thought you would be. I knew you would figure out how to use it quickly. Is this one of the high school sports in Nevada? Getting ready to try and shoot some more basketball soon. Really looking forward to Baseball,Soccer,Softball, etc, to start. This year I am going to try and shoot a game a day for MaxPreps ( that really sounds overboard) but I am going to try. Don't know if this old body can handle that or not! Keep it up my friend you do it right. Post more when you can, I enjoy the responses from your post.m Shoot Tight!

I will start out that way and see how it goes. There will be days I will shoot 2 games. I just want to be outside SO BAD! Warm weather would be nice. Post some photos from the games you are shooting Wed/Thurs. Or I will just look on Max. Thanks
